^18 (A)All the people perceived the ^[a]thunder and the lightning flashes and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood at a distance. ^19 (B)Then they said to Moses, “Speak ^[b]to us yourself and we will listen; but let not God speak ^[c]to us, or we will die.”

¹⁶ This is ^(A)according to all that you asked of the Lord your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, let me not see this great fire anymore, or I will die.’
