¹⁶ “‘Do not go about spreading slander^(A) among your people.

“‘Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life.^(B) I am the Lord.

¹⁷ “‘Do not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart.^(C) Rebuke your neighbor frankly^(D) so you will not share in their guilt.

¹⁸ “‘Do not seek revenge^(E) or bear a grudge^(F) against anyone among your people,^(G) but love your neighbor^(H) as yourself.^(I) I am the Lord.

⁸ And the word of the Lord came again to Zechariah: ⁹ “This is what the Lord Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice;^(A) show mercy and compassion to one another.^{(B) 10} Do not oppress the widow^(C) or the fatherless, the foreigner^(D) or the poor.^(E) Do not plot evil against each other.’^(F)

Salt and Light

¹³ “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.^(A)

¹⁴ “You are the light of the world.^(B) A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. ¹⁵ Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.^{(C) 16} In the same way, let your light shine before others,^(D) that they may see your good deeds^(E) and glorify^(F) your Father in heaven.
