¹⁶ Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were ^(A)thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp ^(B)trembled.

The People Afraid of God’s Presence

¹⁸ Now ^(A)all the people ^(B)witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain ^(C)smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off.

^5 (A)I stood between the Lord and you at that time, to declare to you the word of the Lord; for ^(B)you were afraid because of the fire, and you did not go up the mountain. He said:

¹⁸ So Samuel called to the Lord, and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day; and ^(A)all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel.
