¹⁰ He said, “Praise be to the Lord,^(A) who rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians and of Pharaoh, and who rescued the people from the hand of the Egyptians.

¹⁹ Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you.^(A) You must be the people’s representative before God and bring their disputes^(B) to him.

²⁹ Now Moses said to Hobab^(A) son of Reuel^(B) the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law,^(C) “We are setting out for the place about which the Lord said, ‘I will give it to you.’^(D) Come with us and we will treat you well, for the Lord has promised good things to Israel.”

³⁰ He answered, “No, I will not go;^(E) I am going back to my own land and my own people.^(F)”

³¹ But Moses said, “Please do not leave us. You know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes.^{(G) 32} If you come with us, we will share with you^(H) whatever good things the Lord gives us.^(I)”

¹⁶ The descendants of Moses’ father-in-law,^(A) the Kenite,^(B) went up from the City of Palms^[a](C) with the people of Judah to live among the inhabitants of the Desert of Judah in the Negev near Arad.^(D)

¹¹ Now Heber the Kenite had left the other Kenites,^(A) the descendants of Hobab,^(B) Moses’ brother-in-law,^[a] and pitched his tent by the great tree^(C) in Zaanannim^(D) near Kedesh.
