7 And he called the name of the place [a]Massah and [b]Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they had tempted the Lord, saying, Is the [c]Lord among us, or no?
8 ¶ (A)Then came [d]Amalek and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
9 And Moses said to Joshua, Choose us out men, and go fight with Amalek: tomorrow I will stand on the top of the [e]hill with the rod of God in mine hand.

New International Version
7 And he called the place Massah[a](A) and Meribah[b](B) because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
The Amalekites Defeated
8 The Amalekites(C) came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.(D) 9 Moses said to Joshua,(E) “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff(F) of God in my hands.”
