14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this as a memorial in a book and recite it in the ears of (A)Joshua, that (B)I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.” 15 And Moses (C)built an altar and called the name of it, The Lord Is My Banner, 16 saying, “A hand upon the throne[a] of the Lord! (D)The Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”
Jethro's Advice
18 (E)Jethro, (F)the priest of Midian, Moses' father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses and for Israel his people, how the Lord had brought Israel out of Egypt. 2 Now Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, had taken Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her home, 3 along with her (G)two sons. The name of the one was Gershom ((H)for he said, (I)“I have been a sojourner[b] in a foreign land”), 4 and the name of the other, Eliezer[c] (for he said, “The God of my father was my help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh”).

14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write(A) this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out(B) the name of Amalek(C) from under heaven.”
15 Moses built an altar(D) and called(E) it The Lord is my Banner. 16 He said, “Because hands were lifted up against[a] the throne of the Lord,[b] the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites(F) from generation to generation.”(G)
Jethro Visits Moses
18 Now Jethro,(H) the priest of Midian(I) and father-in-law of Moses, heard of everything God had done for Moses and for his people Israel, and how the Lord had brought Israel out of Egypt.(J)
2 After Moses had sent away his wife Zipporah,(K) his father-in-law Jethro received her 3 and her two sons.(L) One son was named Gershom,[c] for Moses said, “I have become a foreigner in a foreign land”;(M) 4 and the other was named Eliezer,[d](N) for he said, “My father’s God was my helper;(O) he saved me from the sword of Pharaoh.”
