^35 (A)The sons of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate the manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

³³ Your sons shall be shepherds for ^(A)forty years in the wilderness, and they will ^[a]suffer for your ^[b]unfaithfulness, until your corpses ^[c]lie in the wilderness.

⁴² But God ^(A)turned away and delivered them up to ^[a]serve the ^[b]host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, ‘^(B)It was not to Me that you offered victims and sacrifices ^(C)forty years in the wilderness, was it, O house of Israel?

¹⁸ For ^(A)a period of about forty years ^(B)He put up with them in the wilderness.

The Peril of Unbelief

^12 (F)Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart ^[b]that falls away from ^(G)the living God. ¹³ But ^(H)encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the ^(I)deceitfulness of sin. ¹⁴ For we have become partakers of Christ, ^(J)if we hold fast the beginning of our ^(K)assurance firm until the end, ¹⁵ while it is said,

¹⁶ For who ^(M)provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, ^(N)did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? ¹⁷ And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, ^(O)whose bodies fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸ And to whom did He swear ^(P)that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were ^(Q)disobedient? ¹⁹ So we see that they were not able to enter because of ^(R)unbelief.
