L’éphod des prêtres[a]
39 Avec les fils de pourpre violette et écarlate et de rouge éclatant, on confectionna les vêtements de cérémonie pour faire le service dans le sanctuaire, et les vêtements sacrés pour Aaron, comme l’Eternel l’avait ordonné à Moïse.
2 Il fit l’éphod avec des fils d’or, de pourpre violette et écarlate, de rouge éclatant et du fin lin retors. 3 On étendit l’or en lames que l’on coupa en fils pour les entrelacer dans la pourpre violette, la pourpre écarlate, le rouge éclatant et le lin fin ; dans les règles de l’art. 4 On y fit deux bretelles cousues à ses deux bords, pour le maintenir. 5 La ceinture était faite de la même façon, de la même étoffe que l’éphod, elle était faite de fils d’or, de pourpre violette et écarlate, de rouge éclatant et de fin lin retors, comme l’Eternel l’avait ordonné à Moïse. 6 On sertit les pierres d’onyx dans les montures d’or et on les grava aux noms des fils d’Israël, comme on grave un sceau à cacheter. 7 On les fixa sur les bretelles de l’éphod pour rappeler le souvenir des fils d’Israël, comme l’Eternel l’avait ordonné à Moïse.
Le pectoral
8 On fit le pectoral, dans les règles de l’art, et ouvragé comme l’éphod, avec des fils d’or, de pourpre violette et écarlate, de rouge éclatant et du fin lin retors. 9 Une fois replié en deux, il avait la forme d’un carré de vingt-cinq centimètres de côté. 10 On le garnit de quatre rangées de pierreries. Sur la première : une sardoine, une topaze et une émeraude[b]. 11 Sur la deuxième : un rubis, un saphir et un diamant. 12 Sur la troisième : une opale, une agate, et une améthyste. 13 Sur la quatrième : une chrysolithe, un onyx et un jaspe. Ces pierreries étaient serties dans des montures d’or. 14 Elles étaient gravées aux noms des douze fils d’Israël comme des sceaux à cacheter : chacun portait le nom d’une des douze tribus. 15 On fit au pectoral des chaînettes d’or pur, tressées comme des cordons. 16 On lui fit aussi deux montures d’or et deux anneaux d’or que l’on fixa à ses deux bords 17 pour passer les deux cordons d’or dans les deux anneaux d’or aux bords du pectoral. 18 A leur autre extrémité ces deux cordons furent fixés aux deux agrafes placées sur les bretelles de l’éphod par-devant. 19 On fit de plus deux anneaux d’or que l’on plaça aux deux bords du pectoral, la face intérieure contre l’éphod. 20 On fit deux autres anneaux d’or qui furent fixés par le bas aux deux bretelles de l’éphod, sur le devant, près de l’attache, au-dessus de la ceinture de l’éphod. 21 On lia les anneaux du pectoral à ceux de l’éphod par un cordonnet de pourpre violette, afin que le pectoral soit fixé sur la ceinture de l’éphod, sans pouvoir s’en séparer, comme l’Eternel l’avait ordonné à Moïse.
Les autres vêtements des prêtres
22 On tissa la robe de l’éphod tout entière en pourpre violette. 23 Au milieu était ménagée une ouverture comme l’encolure d’un vêtement de cuir tressé ; autour de cette ouverture, on avait cousu un ourlet pour que la robe ne se déchire pas. 24 On garnit le pan de la robe de grenades faites de fils de pourpre violette et écarlate, de rouge éclatant et de lin retors. 25 On fabriqua des clochettes d’or pur et on les fit alterner tout autour avec les grenades le long du pan de la robe : 26 une clochette et une grenade, et ainsi de suite sur tout le tour du bas de la robe pour le service, comme l’Eternel l’avait ordonné à Moïse.
27 On tissa les tuniques pour Aaron et ses fils dans du lin fin, 28 le turban de fin lin, les tiares de fin lin, les caleçons de lin retors 29 et la ceinture brodée en fils de fin lin retors, de pourpre violette, de pourpre écarlate et de rouge éclatant comme l’Eternel l’avait ordonné à Moïse. 30 On fit l’insigne, le diadème sacré, en or pur et l’on y grava comme sur un sceau à cacheter : « Consacré à l’Eternel ». 31 On y mit un cordonnet de pourpre violette pour le fixer en haut du turban, comme l’Eternel l’avait ordonné à Moïse.
L’achèvement des travaux
32 Ainsi fut achevé tout le travail pour le tabernacle, la tente de la Rencontre ; les Israélites avaient tout exécuté selon les directives que l’Eternel avait données à Moïse ; c’est bien ainsi qu’ils avaient fait. 33 On apporta la Demeure à Moïse : la tente et tous ses éléments : ses agrafes, ses cadres, ses traverses, ses piliers et ses socles, 34 la couverture de peaux de béliers teintes en rouge, la couverture de peaux de dauphins et le voile de séparation, 35 le coffre de l’acte d’alliance, ses barres et son propitiatoire, 36 la table, tous ses ustensiles et le pain destiné à être exposé devant l’Eternel, 37 le chandelier d’or pur, l’arrangement de ses lampes, tous ses accessoires et l’huile pour l’alimenter, 38 l’autel d’or, l’huile d’onction, le parfum aromatique et le rideau pour l’entrée de la tente, 39 l’autel de bronze avec sa grille de bronze, ses barres et tous ses ustensiles, la cuve et son socle, 40 les tentures du parvis, ses piliers, ses socles ; le rideau pour la porte du parvis, ses cordages, ses piquets et tous les accessoires pour le culte du tabernacle, la tente de la Rencontre, 41 les vêtements de cérémonie pour effectuer le service dans le sanctuaire, les vêtements sacrés pour le prêtre Aaron et les vêtements de ses fils afin qu’ils puissent officier.
42 Pour tous ces travaux, les Israélites suivirent exactement les directives que l’Eternel avait données à Moïse. 43 Moïse examina tout l’ouvrage, et constata qu’il avait été fait exactement comme l’Eternel le lui avait ordonné. Alors Moïse les bénit.

39 1 The apparel of Aaron and his sons. 32 All that the Lord commanded was made, and finished. 43 Moses blesseth the people.
1 Moreover they made [a]garments of ministration to minister in the Sanctuary of blue silk, and purple, and scarlet: they (A)made also the holy garments for Aaron, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
2 So he made the Ephod of gold, blue silk, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen.
3 And they did beat the gold into thin plates, and cut it into wires, to work it in the blue silk and in the purple, and in the scarlet, and in the fine linen, with broidered work.
4 For the which they made shoulders to couple together: for it was closed by the two edges thereof.
5 And the broidered girdle of his Ephod that was upon him, was of the same stuff, and of like work: even of gold, of blue silk, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
6 ¶ And they wrought (B)two Onyx stones closed in ouches of gold, and graved, as [b]signets are graven, with the names of the children of Israel.
7 And put them on the shoulders of the Ephod, as stones for a (C)remembrance of the children of Israel, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
8 ¶ Also he made the breastplate of broidered work like the work of the Ephod: to wit, of gold, blue silk, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen.
9 They made the breast plate double, and it was square an hand breadth long, and an hand breadth broad: it was also double.
10 And they filled it with four rows of stones. The order was thus, a Ruby, a Topaz, and a Carbuncle in the first row.
11 And in the second row an Emerald, a Sapphire, and a Diamond:
12 Also in the third row [c]a Turquoise, an Agate, and an Hematite:
13 Likewise in the fourth row a Chrysolite, an Onyx, and a Jasper: closed and set in ouches of gold.
14 So the stones were according to the names of the children of Israel, even twelve [d]after their names, graven like signets, every one after his name, according to the twelve tribes.
15 After, they made upon the breastplate chains at the ends, of wreathen work and pure gold.
16 They made also two bosses of gold, and two gold rings, and put the two rings in the two corners of the breastplate.
17 And they put the two wreathen chains of gold in the two rings, in the corners of the breastplate.
18 Also the two other ends of the two wreathen chains they fastened in the two bosses, and put them on the shoulders of the Ephod, upon the forefront of it.
19 Likewise they made two rings of gold, and put them in the two other corners of the breastplate upon the edge of it, which was on the inside of the Ephod.
20 They made also two other golden rings, and put them on the two sides of the Ephod, beneath on the foreside of it, and over against his coupling above the broidered girdle of the Ephod.
21 Then they fastened the breastplate by his rings unto the rings of the Ephod, with a lace of blue silk that it might be fast upon the broidered girdle of the Ephod, and that the breastplate should not be loosed from the Ephod, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
22 ¶ Moreover, he made the robe of the [e]Ephod of woven work, altogether of blue silk.
23 And [f]the hole of the robe was in the midst of it, as the collar of an habergeon, with an edge about the collar, that it should not rent.
24 And they made upon the skirt of the robe pomegranates, of blue silk and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen twined.
25 They made also (D)bells of pure gold, and put the bells between the pomegranates upon the skirts of the robe round about between the pomegranates.
26 A bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate round about the skirts of the robe to minister in, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
27 ¶ After, they made coats of fine linen, of woven work for Aaron and for his sons.
28 And the mitre of fine linen, and goodly bonnets of fine linen, and linen (E)breeches of fine twined linen.
29 ¶ And the girdle of fine twined linen, and of blue silk, and purple, and scarlet, even of needle work, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
30 ¶ Finally, they made the plate for the holy crown of fine gold, and wrote upon it a superscription like to the graving of a signet, (F)HOLINESS TO THE LORD.
31 And they tied unto it a lace of blue silk to fasten it on high upon the mitre, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
32 ¶ Thus was all the work of the Tabernacle, even of the (G)Tabernacle of the Congregation finished: and the children of Israel did according to all that the Lord had commanded Moses: so did they.
33 ¶ Afterward they brought the Tabernacle unto Moses, the Tabernacle and all his instruments, his taches, his boards, his bars, and his pillars, and his sockets,
34 And the covering of rams’ skins, dyed red, and the coverings of badgers’ skins, and the [g]covering veil.
35 The Ark of the testimony, and the bars thereof, and the Mercy seat.
36 The Table, with all the instruments thereof, and the showbread.
37 The pure Candlestick, the lamps thereof, even the Lamps [h]set in order, and all the instruments thereof, and the oil for light:
38 Also the golden Altar and the anointing oil, and the sweet incense, and the hanging of the Tabernacle door,
39 The brazen Altar with his grate of brass, his bars and all his instruments, the Laver and his foot.
40 The curtains of the court with his pillars, and his sockets, and the hanging to the court gate, and his cords, and his pins, and all the instruments of the service of the Tabernacle, called the Tabernacle of the Congregation.
41 Finally, the ministering garments to serve in the Sanctuary, and the holy garments for Aaron the Priest, and his sons’ garments to minister in the Priest’s office.
42 According to every point that the Lord had [i]commanded Moses, so the children of Israel made all the work.
43 And Moses beheld all the work, and behold they had done it as the Lord had commanded: so had they done: and Moses [j]blessed them.

The Making of the Priestly Garments
39 From the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn they made woven garments for serving in the sanctuary; they made holy garments that were for Aaron, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.[a]
The Ephod
2 He made the ephod of gold, blue, purple, scarlet yarn, and fine twisted linen. 3 They hammered the gold into thin sheets and cut it into narrow strips to weave[b] them into the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and into the fine linen, the work of an artistic designer. 4 They made shoulder pieces for it, attached to two of its corners, so it could be joined together. 5 The artistically woven waistband of the ephod that was on it was like it, of one piece with it,[c] of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
6 They set the onyx stones in gold filigree settings, engraved as with the engravings of a seal[d] with the names of the sons of Israel.[e] 7 He put[f] them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as stones of memorial for the Israelites, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
The Breastpiece of Decision
8 He made the breastpiece, the work of an artistic designer, in the same fashion as the ephod, of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine twisted linen. 9 It was square—they made the breastpiece doubled, nine inches long and nine inches wide when doubled. 10 They set on it[g] four rows of stones: a row with a ruby, a topaz, and a beryl—the first row; 11 and the second row, a turquoise, a sapphire, and an emerald; 12 and the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst; 13 and the fourth row, a chrysolite, an onyx, and a jasper. They were enclosed in gold filigree settings. 14 The stones were for the names of the sons of Israel, twelve, corresponding to the number of[h] their names. Each name corresponding to one of the twelve tribes was like the engravings of a seal.
15 They made for the breastpiece braided chains like cords of pure gold, 16 and they made two gold filigree settings and two gold rings, and they attached the two rings to the upper[i] two ends of the breastpiece. 17 They attached the two gold chains to the two rings at the ends of the breastpiece; 18 the other[j] two ends of the two chains they attached to the two settings, and they attached them to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front of it. 19 They made two rings of gold and put them on the other[k] two ends of the breastpiece on its edge, which is on the inner side of the ephod.[l] 20 They made two more[m] gold rings and attached them to the bottom of the two shoulder pieces on the front of the ephod, close to the juncture above the waistband of the ephod. 21 They tied the breastpiece by its rings to the rings of the ephod by blue cord, so that it was above the waistband of the ephod, so that the breastpiece would not be loose from the ephod, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
The Other Garments
22 He made the robe of the ephod completely blue, the work of a weaver. 23 There was an opening in the center of the robe, like the opening of a collar,[n] with an edge all around the opening so that it could not be torn. 24 They made pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and twisted linen[o] around the hem of the robe. 25 They made bells of pure gold and attached the bells between the pomegranates around the hem of the robe between the pomegranates. 26 There was[p] a bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate, all around the hem of the robe, to be used in ministering,[q] just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
27 They made tunics of fine linen—the work of a weaver, for Aaron and for his sons— 28 and the turban of fine linen, the headbands of fine linen, and the undergarments of fine twisted linen. 29 The sash was of fine twisted linen and blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, the work of an embroiderer, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 30 They made a plate, the holy diadem, of pure gold and wrote on it an inscription, as on the engravings of a seal, “Holiness to the Lord.” 31 They attached to it a blue cord to attach it to the turban above, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
Moses Inspects the Tabernacle
32 [r] So all the work of the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, was completed, and the Israelites did according to all that the Lord had commanded Moses—they did it exactly so. 33 They brought the tabernacle to Moses, the tent and all its furnishings, clasps, frames, bars, posts, and bases; 34 and the coverings of ram skins dyed red, the covering of fine leather,[s] and the protecting[t] curtain; 35 the ark of the testimony and its poles, and the atonement lid; 36 the table, all its utensils, and the Bread of the Presence; 37 the pure[u] lampstand, its lamps, with the lamps set in order, and all its accessories, and oil for the light; 38 and the gold altar, and the anointing oil, and the fragrant incense; and the curtain for the entrance to the tent; 39 the bronze altar and its bronze grating, its poles, and all its utensils; the large basin with its pedestal; 40 the hangings of the courtyard, its posts and its bases, and the curtain for the gateway of the courtyard, its ropes and its tent pegs, and all the furnishings[v] for the service of the tabernacle, for the tent of meeting; 41 the woven garments for serving[w] in the sanctuary, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments for his sons to minister as priests.
42 The Israelites did all the work according to all that the Lord had commanded Moses. 43 Moses inspected[x] all the work, and[y] they had done it just as the Lord had commanded—they had done it exactly—and Moses blessed them.[z]
