Pharaon averti de la mort des premiers-nés
11 L’Eternel dit à Moïse: Je ferai venir encore une plaie sur Pharaon et sur l’Egypte. Après cela, il vous laissera partir d’ici. Lorsqu’il vous laissera tout à fait aller, il vous chassera même d’ici. 2 Parle au peuple, pour que chacun demande à son voisin et chacune à sa voisine des vases d’argent et des vases d’or. 3 L’Eternel fit trouver grâce au peuple aux yeux des Egyptiens; Moïse lui-même était très considéré dans le pays d’Egypte, aux yeux des serviteurs de Pharaon et aux yeux du peuple.
4 Moïse dit: Ainsi parle l’Eternel: Vers le milieu de la nuit, je passerai au travers de l’Egypte; 5 et tous les premiers-nés mourront dans le pays d’Egypte, depuis le premier-né de Pharaon assis sur son trône, jusqu’au premier-né de la servante qui est derrière la meule, et jusqu’à tous les premiers-nés des animaux. 6 Il y aura dans tout le pays d’Egypte de grands cris, tels qu’il n’y en a point eu et qu’il n’y en aura plus de semblables. 7 Mais parmi tous les enfants d’Israël, depuis les hommes jusqu’aux animaux, pas même un chien ne remuera sa langue, afin que vous sachiez quelle différence l’Eternel fait entre l’Egypte et Israël. 8 Alors tous tes serviteurs que voici descendront vers moi et se prosterneront devant moi, en disant: Sors, toi et tout le peuple qui s’attache à tes pas! Après cela, je sortirai. Moïse sortit de chez Pharaon, dans une ardente colère.
9 L’Eternel dit à Moïse: Pharaon ne vous écoutera point, afin que mes miracles se multiplient dans le pays d’Egypte. 10 Moïse et Aaron firent tous ces miracles devant Pharaon, et l’Eternel endurcit le cœur de Pharaon qui ne laissa point aller[a] les enfants d’Israël hors de son pays.

11 L’Eternel dit à Moïse : Je vais encore faire venir un fléau pour frapper le pharaon et l’Egypte. Après cela, il vous laissera partir d’ici ; et même, il vous chassera définitivement de son pays. 2 Va donc parler au peuple : que chacun demande à son voisin, et chacune à sa voisine, des objets d’or et d’argent.
3 L’Eternel fit gagner au peuple la faveur des Egyptiens, Moïse lui-même était un personnage très respecté par les hauts fonctionnaires du pharaon et par la population.
4 Moïse dit au pharaon : Voici ce que l’Eternel déclare : « Au milieu de la nuit, j’irai et je parcourrai l’Egypte 5 et tout fils aîné[a] dans ce pays mourra, depuis le fils aîné du pharaon qui est sur le trône jusqu’à celui de la servante qui fait tourner la meule, ainsi que tout premier-né du bétail. 6 De grands cris s’élèveront dans tout le pays comme il n’y en a jamais eu et comme il n’y en aura plus de semblable. 7 Mais chez les Israélites, on n’entendra pas même un chien aboyer contre un homme ou une bête. Vous saurez ainsi que l’Eternel fait une distinction entre l’Egypte et Israël. 8 Alors tous tes hauts fonctionnaires qui t’entourent viendront me trouver et se jetteront à mes pieds en suppliant : “Va-t’en, toi et tout le peuple qui marche à ta suite.” Après cela, oui, je partirai. »
Moïse sortit alors de chez le pharaon dans une grande colère.
9 L’Eternel lui avait dit : Le pharaon ne vous écoutera pas, afin que mes prodiges se multiplient en Egypte.
10 Moïse et Aaron accomplirent donc tous ces prodiges en présence du pharaon. Mais l’Eternel rendit son cœur obstiné, de sorte qu’il ne laissa pas les Israélites quitter son pays.

11 And the Lord said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether.
2 Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver and jewels of gold.
3 And the Lord gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants, and in the sight of the people.
4 And Moses said, Thus saith the Lord, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt:
5 And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.
6 And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more.
7 But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the Lord doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.
8 And all these thy servants shall come down unto me, and bow down themselves unto me, saying, Get thee out, and all the people that follow thee: and after that I will go out. And he went out from Pharaoh in a great anger.
9 And the Lord said unto Moses, Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you; that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.
10 And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: and the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land.

The Plague on the Firstborn
11 Now the Lord had said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. After that, he will let you go(A) from here, and when he does, he will drive you out completely.(B) 2 Tell the people that men and women alike are to ask their neighbors for articles of silver and gold.”(C) 3 (The Lord made the Egyptians favorably disposed(D) toward the people, and Moses himself was highly regarded(E) in Egypt by Pharaoh’s officials and by the people.)
4 So Moses said, “This is what the Lord says: ‘About midnight(F) I will go throughout Egypt.(G) 5 Every firstborn(H) son in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn son of the female slave, who is at her hand mill,(I) and all the firstborn of the cattle as well. 6 There will be loud wailing(J) throughout Egypt—worse than there has ever been or ever will be again. 7 But among the Israelites not a dog will bark at any person or animal.’ Then you will know that the Lord makes a distinction(K) between Egypt and Israel. 8 All these officials of yours will come to me, bowing down before me and saying, ‘Go,(L) you and all the people who follow you!’ After that I will leave.”(M) Then Moses, hot with anger, left Pharaoh.
9 The Lord had said to Moses, “Pharaoh will refuse to listen(N) to you—so that my wonders(O) may be multiplied in Egypt.” 10 Moses and Aaron performed all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart,(P) and he would not let the Israelites go out of his country.

Death of the Firstborn Announced(A)
11 And the Lord said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. (B)Afterward he will let you go from here. (C)When he lets you go, he will surely drive you out of here altogether. 2 Speak now in the hearing of the people, and let every man ask from his neighbor and every woman from her neighbor, (D)articles of silver and articles of gold.” 3 (E)And the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man (F)Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants and in the sight of the people.
