Moses’ sang
15 Da sang Moses og israelitterne denne sang for Herren:
Jeg vil synge for Herren,
ophøje ham for hans herlige sejr.
Han fældede hest og rytter,
kastede dem i havets dyb.
2 Herren er min styrke og glæde,
han er den, som frelser mig.
Han er min Gud, og jeg vil prise ham,
mine forfædres Gud, jeg vil ophøje ham.
3 Herren er en vældig kriger,
Herren er hans navn.
4 Faraos vogne og hære blev opslugt af havet,
hans folk forsvandt i Det Røde Hav.
5 Bølgerne slog hen over dem,
de sank som sten i havets dyb.
6 Herre, din højre hånd er stærk,
du knuser dine fjender.
7 Med din vældige magt vandt du
over dem, som var imod dig.
Din vrede flammede op
og fortærede dem som halmstrå.
8 Ved dit åndepust hobede vandet sig op,
de brusende vande stod som en mur,
og havbunden tørrede ind.
9 Fjenden tænkte: „Jeg forfølger dem,
indhenter dem og udrydder dem.
Jeg plyndrer dem og uddeler byttet,
jeg stiller min hævntørst på dem.
Jeg trækker mit sværd af skeden,
med magt vil jeg udrydde dem.”
10 Men du pustede, og havet dækkede dem.
De sank som bly i de vældige vande.
11 Hvem er som du blandt guder, Herre?
Hvem er som du, hellig og herlig,
forfærdelig i stråleglans,
forunderlig i styrke?
12 Du løftede din hånd,
og jorden opslugte vores fjender.
13 Du er en trofast leder for dit frikøbte folk.
Du har magt til at føre dem til din hellige bolig.
14 Folkeslagene hører om det og skælver,
filistrene overvældes af frygt.
15 Edoms høvdinge forfærdes,
Moabs fyrster ryster.
Kana’ans beboere taber modet.
16 Rædsel og angst overvælder dem.
De står tavse af frygt med forstenede ansigter,
indtil dit folk er gået forbi, Herre,
til dit frikøbte folk er nået hjem.
17 Du fører dem og planter dem på dit eget bjerg,
det sted, som skal blive din bolig, Herre,
den helligdom, du selv vil bygge.
18 Herren er konge, evig og altid!
19 Dengang Faraos heste, vogne og ryttere stormede ud i havet, lod Herren vandet styrte hen over dem. Men israelitterne gik tørskoede over. 20 Da greb Arons søster, profeten Mirjam, en tamburin, og alle kvinderne fulgte hende i dansen, mens de spillede på deres tamburiner. 21 Mirjam sang:
Syng for Herren,
han er større end alle andre.
Hest og rytter
kastede han i havets dyb.
Det bitre vand i Mara og Elims friske kilder
22 Derpå førte Moses Israels folk videre fra Det Røde Hav ind i Shurs Ørken, og de gik i tre dage uden at finde vand. 23 Da de kom til Mara,[a] fandt de en lille sø, men vandet var bittert og ikke til at drikke. 24 Så beklagede folket sig til Moses. „Hvad har du tænkt, vi skal drikke?” jamrede de.
25 Da bad Moses Herren om hjælp, og Herren viste ham en bestemt slags træ, og da han kastede et stykke af træet i søen, blev det muligt at drikke vandet.
Det var her i ørkenen, at Herren gav Israels folk sine forordninger og retningslinier, og det var her, han satte dem på prøve, idet han sagde: 26 „Hvis I vil lytte til Jahve, jeres Gud, følge mine forordninger og gøre det, som er rigtigt i mine øjne, så skal I ikke lide under de plager, jeg sendte over egypterne. Jeg er Herren, og jeg kan helbrede jer.”
27 Da de gik videre fra Mara, kom de til Elim, hvor der var 12 vandkilder og 70 palmetræer, og de slog lejr ved kilderne.

15 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the Lord, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
2 The Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.
3 The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name.
4 Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea.
5 The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone.
6 Thy right hand, O Lord, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O Lord, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.
7 And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble.
8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea.
9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.
10 Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters.
11 Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
12 Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.
13 Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation.
14 The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina.
15 Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away.
16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O Lord, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased.
17 Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O Lord, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.
18 The Lord shall reign for ever and ever.
19 For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the Lord brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.
20 And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.
21 And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.
23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.
24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?
25 And he cried unto the Lord; and the Lord shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,
26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.
27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.

The horse and its rider

20 Then Miriam (AS)the prophetess, (AT)the sister of Aaron, (AU)took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her (AV)with timbrels and with dances. 21 And Miriam (AW)answered them:

For He has triumphed gloriously!
The horse and its rider
He has thrown into the sea!”
Bitter Waters Made Sweet
22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they went out into the Wilderness of (AY)Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no (AZ)water. 23 Now when they came to (BA)Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called [d]Marah. 24 And the people (BB)complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. (BC)When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet.
There He (BD)made a statute and an [e]ordinance for them, and there (BE)He tested them, 26 and said, (BF)“If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the (BG)diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord (BH)who heals you.”
27 (BI)Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve wells of water and seventy palm trees; so they camped there by the waters.

Bitter Water Made Sweet
22 Then Moses made Israel set out from the Red Sea, and they went into the wilderness of (AV)Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 When they came to (AW)Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah.[b] 24 And the people (AX)grumbled against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 And he (AY)cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log,[c] and he (AZ)threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.
There the Lord[d] made for them a statute and a rule, and there he (BA)tested them, 26 saying, (BB)“If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the (BC)diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, (BD)your healer.”
27 Then (BE)they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they encamped there by the water.
