¹² But the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh; and he ^(A)did not heed them, just ^(B)as the Lord had spoken to Moses.

²¹ And the Lord said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you do all those ^(A)wonders before Pharaoh which I have put in your hand. But ^(B)I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go.

¹³ And Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, as the Lord had said.

The First Plague: Waters Become Blood

¹⁴ So the Lord said to Moses: ^(A)“Pharaoh’s heart is hard; he refuses to let the people go.

Fifth Bowl: Darkness and Pain

¹⁰ Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl ^(A)on the throne of the beast, ^(B)and his kingdom became full of darkness; ^(C)and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain. ¹¹ They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds.
