²² So Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Lord, why have You brought trouble on this people? Why is it You have sent me?

Jeremiah’s Unpopular Ministry

¹⁰ So he said, ^(A)“I have been very ^(B)zealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and ^(C)killed Your prophets with the sword. ^(D)I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”

⁴ But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a ^[a]broom tree. And he ^(A)prayed that he might die, and said, “It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!”

⁶ Now David was greatly distressed, for ^(A)the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was ^[a]grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. ^(B)But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

^14 (A)I am not able to bear all these people alone, because the burden is too heavy for me. ¹⁵ If You treat me like this, please kill me here and now—if I have found favor in Your sight—and ^(B)do not let me see my wretchedness!”

^11 (A)So Moses said to the Lord, “Why have You afflicted Your servant? And why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You have laid the ^[a]burden of all these people on me?
