⁵ You shall put the golden altar for incense before the ark of the covenant and set up the screen for the entrance of the tabernacle.

A Call to Persevere

¹⁹ Therefore, my brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus,^{(A) 20} by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain (that is, through his flesh),^{(B) 21} and since we have a great priest over the house of God,^{(C) 22} let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.^(D)

Christ Our Advocate

2 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous,^{(A) 2} and he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.^(B)

²⁴ For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made by human hands, a mere copy of the true one, but he entered into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.^(A)

⁶ Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.^(A)

²⁶ He put the golden altar in the tent of meeting before the curtain^{(A) 27} and offered fragrant incense on it as the Lord had commanded Moses. ²⁸ He also put in place the screen for the entrance of the tabernacle.^(B)

Making the Altar of Incense

²⁵ He made the altar of incense of acacia wood, one cubit long and one cubit wide; it was square and was two cubits high; its horns were of one piece with it.^{(A) 26} He overlaid it with pure gold, its top and its sides all around and its horns, and he made a molding of gold around it ²⁷ and two golden rings for it under its molding, on two opposite sides of it, to hold the poles with which to carry it. ²⁸ And he made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold.

²⁵ All the skillful women spun with their hands and brought what they had spun in blue and purple and crimson yarns and fine linen;^{(A) 26} all the women whose hearts moved them to use their skill spun the goats’ hair. ²⁷ And the leaders brought onyx stones and gems to be set in the ephod and the breastpiece^{(B) 28} and spices and oil for the light and for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense.^(C)

The Altar of Incense

30 “You shall make an altar on which to offer incense; you shall make it of acacia wood.^{(A) 2} It shall be one cubit long and one cubit wide; it shall be square and shall be two cubits high; its horns shall be of one piece with it. ³ You shall overlay it with pure gold, its top and its sides all around and its horns, and you shall make for it a molding of gold all around. ⁴ And you shall make two golden rings for it; under its molding on two opposite sides of it you shall make them, and they shall hold the poles for carrying it. ⁵ You shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.

³⁶ “You shall make a screen for the entrance of the tent, of blue, purple, and crimson yarns and of fine twisted linen, embroidered with needlework.^{(A) 37} You shall make for the screen five pillars of acacia and overlay them with gold; their hooks shall be of gold, and you shall cast five bases of bronze for them.^(B)
