²⁴ And it came to pass on the way, at the ^(A)encampment, that the Lord ^(B)met him and sought to ^(C)kill him.

¹⁴ And the uncircumcised male child, who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person ^(A)shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.”

Balaam, the Donkey, and the Angel

²² Then God’s anger was aroused because he went, ^(A)and the Angel of the Lord took His stand in the way as an adversary against him. And he was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him. ²³ Now ^(B)the donkey saw the Angel of the Lord standing in the way with His drawn sword in His hand, and the donkey turned aside out of the way and went into the field. So Balaam struck the donkey to turn her back onto the road.

³ And Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke, saying:

So Aaron held his peace.

¹⁸ Then ^(A)they will heed your voice; and ^(B)you shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt; and you shall say to him, ‘The Lord God of the Hebrews has ^(C)met with us; and now, please, let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.’

¹⁶ Then David lifted his eyes and ^(A)saw the angel of the Lord standing between earth and heaven, having in his hand a drawn sword stretched out over Jerusalem. So David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.

²⁴ When he was gone, ^(A)a lion met him on the road and killed him. And his corpse was thrown on the road, and the donkey stood by it. The lion also stood by the corpse.

²⁷ But as ^(A)one of them opened his sack to give his donkey feed at the encampment, he saw his money; and there it was, in the mouth of his sack.
