Making the Altar of Incense

²⁵ He made the altar of incense of acacia wood, one cubit long and one cubit wide; it was square and was two cubits high; its horns were of one piece with it.^(A)

The Altar of Incense

30 “You shall make an altar on which to offer incense; you shall make it of acacia wood.^{(A) 2} It shall be one cubit long and one cubit wide; it shall be square and shall be two cubits high; its horns shall be of one piece with it. ³ You shall overlay it with pure gold, its top and its sides all around and its horns, and you shall make for it a molding of gold all around. ⁴ And you shall make two golden rings for it; under its molding on two opposite sides of it you shall make them, and they shall hold the poles for carrying it. ⁵ You shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.

³ Another angel with a golden censer came and stood at the altar; he was given a great quantity of incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar that is before the throne.^{(A) 4} And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel.^(B)

⁵ like living stones let yourselves be built^[a] into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.^(A)

²⁵ Consequently, he is able for all time to save^[a] those who approach God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.^(A)

¹⁰ We have an altar from which those who officiate in the tent^[a] have no right to eat.^(A)

⁹ he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to enter the sanctuary of the Lord to offer incense.^{(A) 10} Now at the time of the incense offering, the whole assembly of the people was praying outside.^(B)

¹⁹ How blind you are! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred?^(A)

Pride and Apostasy

¹⁶ But when he had become strong he grew proud, to his destruction. For he acted unfaithfully toward the Lord his God and entered the temple of the Lord to make offering on the altar of incense.^(A)

²⁶ He put the golden altar in the tent of meeting before the curtain^{(A) 27} and offered fragrant incense on it as the Lord had commanded Moses.
