The Tabernacle^(A)

⁸ All those who were skilled among the workers made the tabernacle with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim woven into them by expert hands.

God’s Glory Departs From the Temple

10 I looked, and I saw the likeness of a throne^(A) of lapis lazuli^(B) above the vault^(C) that was over the heads of the cherubim.^{(D) 2} The Lord said to the man clothed in linen,^(E) “Go in among the wheels^(F) beneath the cherubim. Fill^(G) your hands with burning coals^(H) from among the cherubim and scatter them over the city.” And as I watched, he went in.

³ Now the cherubim were standing on the south side of the temple when the man went in, and a cloud filled the inner court. ⁴ Then the glory of the Lord^(I) rose from above the cherubim and moved to the threshold of the temple. The cloud filled the temple, and the court was full of the radiance of the glory of the Lord. ⁵ The sound of the wings of the cherubim could be heard as far away as the outer court, like the voice^(J) of God Almighty^[a] when he speaks.^(K)

⁶ When the Lord commanded the man in linen, “Take fire from among the wheels,^(L) from among the cherubim,” the man went in and stood beside a wheel. ⁷ Then one of the cherubim reached out his hand to the fire^(M) that was among them. He took up some of it and put it into the hands of the man in linen, who took it and went out. ⁸ (Under the wings of the cherubim could be seen what looked like human hands.)^(N)

⁹ I looked, and I saw beside the cherubim four wheels, one beside each of the cherubim; the wheels sparkled like topaz.^{(O) 10} As for their appearance, the four of them looked alike; each was like a wheel intersecting a wheel. ¹¹ As they moved, they would go in any one of the four directions the cherubim faced; the wheels did not turn about^[b] as the cherubim went. The cherubim went in whatever direction the head faced, without turning as they went. ¹² Their entire bodies, including their backs, their hands and their wings, were completely full of eyes,^(P) as were their four wheels.^{(Q) 13} I heard the wheels being called “the whirling wheels.” ¹⁴ Each of the cherubim^(R) had four faces:^(S) One face was that of a cherub, the second the face of a human being, the third the face of a lion,^(T) and the fourth the face of an eagle.^(U)

¹⁵ Then the cherubim rose upward. These were the living creatures^(V) I had seen by the Kebar River.^{(W) 16} When the cherubim moved, the wheels beside them moved; and when the cherubim spread their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels did not leave their side. ¹⁷ When the cherubim stood still, they also stood still; and when the cherubim rose, they rose with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in them.^(X)

¹⁸ Then the glory^(Y) of the Lord departed from over the threshold of the temple and stopped above the cherubim.^{(Z) 19} While I watched, the cherubim spread their wings and rose from the ground, and as they went, the wheels went with them.^(AA) They stopped at the entrance of the east gate of the Lord’s house, and the glory^(AB) of the God of Israel was above them.

⁵ and in the fire was what looked like four living creatures.^(A) In appearance their form was human,^{(B) 6} but each of them had four faces^(C) and four wings. ⁷ Their legs were straight; their feet were like those of a calf and gleamed like burnished bronze.^{(D) 8} Under their wings on their four sides they had human hands.^(E) All four of them had faces and wings, ⁹ and the wings of one touched the wings of another. Each one went straight ahead; they did not turn as they moved.^(F)

¹⁰ Their faces looked like this: Each of the four had the face of a human being, and on the right side each had the face of a lion, and on the left the face of an ox; each also had the face of an eagle.^{(G) 11} Such were their faces. They each had two wings^(H) spreading out upward, each wing touching that of the creature on either side; and each had two other wings covering its body. ¹² Each one went straight ahead. Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, without turning as they went.^{(I) 13} The appearance of the living creatures was like burning coals^(J) of fire or like torches. Fire moved back and forth among the creatures; it was bright, and lightning^(K) flashed out of it. ¹⁴ The creatures sped back and forth like flashes of lightning.^(L)

¹⁵ As I looked at the living creatures,^(M) I saw a wheel^(N) on the ground beside each creature with its four faces. ¹⁶ This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like topaz,^(O) and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel. ¹⁷ As they moved, they would go in any one of the four directions the creatures faced; the wheels did not change direction^(P) as the creatures went. ¹⁸ Their rims were high and awesome, and all four rims were full of eyes^(Q) all around.

¹⁹ When the living creatures moved, the wheels beside them moved; and when the living creatures rose from the ground, the wheels also rose. ²⁰ Wherever the spirit would go, they would go,^(R) and the wheels would rise along with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels. ²¹ When the creatures moved, they also moved; when the creatures stood still, they also stood still; and when the creatures rose from the ground, the wheels rose along with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.^(S)

²² Spread out above the heads of the living creatures was what looked something like a vault,^(T) sparkling like crystal, and awesome. ²³ Under the vault their wings were stretched out one toward the other, and each had two wings covering its body. ²⁴ When the creatures moved, I heard the sound of their wings, like the roar of rushing^(U) waters, like the voice^(V) of the Almighty,^[a] like the tumult of an army.^(W) When they stood still, they lowered their wings.

²⁵ Then there came a voice from above the vault over their heads as they stood with lowered wings. ²⁶ Above the vault over their heads was what looked like a throne^(X) of lapis lazuli,^(Y) and high above on the throne was a figure like that of a man.^{(Z) 27} I saw that from what appeared to be his waist up he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him.^{(AA) 28} Like the appearance of a rainbow^(AB) in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him.^(AC)

This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory^(AD) of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown,^(AE) and I heard the voice of one speaking.

¹⁰ For the Most Holy Place he made a pair^(A) of sculptured cherubim and overlaid them with gold.

The Ark Brought to Jerusalem^(A)

15 After David had constructed buildings for himself in the City of David, he prepared^(B) a place for the ark of God and pitched^(C) a tent for it.

²³ For the inner sanctuary he made a pair of cherubim^(A) out of olive wood, each ten cubits high.

¹⁰ “All who are skilled among you are to come and make everything the Lord has commanded:^(A)

⁶ Moreover, I have appointed Oholiab^(A) son of Ahisamak, of the tribe of Dan,^(B) to help him. Also I have given ability to all the skilled workers^(C) to make everything I have commanded you:

The Tabernacle^(A)

26 “Make the tabernacle^(B) with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim^(C) woven into them by a skilled worker. ² All the curtains are to be the same size^(D)—twenty-eight cubits long and four cubits wide.^{[a] 3} Join five of the curtains together, and do the same with the other five. ⁴ Make loops of blue material along the edge of the end curtain in one set, and do the same with the end curtain in the other set. ⁵ Make fifty loops on one curtain and fifty loops on the end curtain of the other set, with the loops opposite each other. ⁶ Then make fifty gold clasps and use them to fasten the curtains together so that the tabernacle is a unit.^(E)

⁷ “Make curtains of goat hair for the tent over the tabernacle—eleven altogether. ⁸ All eleven curtains are to be the same size^(F)—thirty cubits long and four cubits wide.^{[b] 9} Join five of the curtains together into one set and the other six into another set. Fold the sixth curtain double at the front of the tent. ¹⁰ Make fifty loops along the edge of the end curtain in one set and also along the edge of the end curtain in the other set. ¹¹ Then make fifty bronze clasps and put them in the loops to fasten the tent together as a unit.^{(G) 12} As for the additional length of the tent curtains, the half curtain that is left over is to hang down at the rear of the tabernacle. ¹³ The tent curtains will be a cubit^[c] longer on both sides; what is left will hang over the sides of the tabernacle so as to cover it. ¹⁴ Make for the tent a covering^(H) of ram skins dyed red, and over that a covering of the other durable leather.^[d](I)

¹⁵ “Make upright frames of acacia wood for the tabernacle. ¹⁶ Each frame is to be ten cubits long and a cubit and a half wide,^{[e] 17} with two projections set parallel to each other. Make all the frames of the tabernacle in this way. ¹⁸ Make twenty frames for the south side of the tabernacle ¹⁹ and make forty silver bases^(J) to go under them—two bases for each frame, one under each projection. ²⁰ For the other side, the north side of the tabernacle, make twenty frames ²¹ and forty silver bases^(K)—two under each frame. ²² Make six frames for the far end, that is, the west end of the tabernacle, ²³ and make two frames for the corners at the far end. ²⁴ At these two corners they must be double from the bottom all the way to the top and fitted into a single ring; both shall be like that. ²⁵ So there will be eight frames and sixteen silver bases—two under each frame.

²⁶ “Also make crossbars of acacia wood: five for the frames on one side of the tabernacle, ²⁷ five for those on the other side, and five for the frames on the west, at the far end of the tabernacle. ²⁸ The center crossbar is to extend from end to end at the middle of the frames. ²⁹ Overlay the frames with gold and make gold rings to hold the crossbars. Also overlay the crossbars with gold.

³⁰ “Set up the tabernacle^(L) according to the plan^(M) shown you on the mountain.

³¹ “Make a curtain^(N) of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen, with cherubim^(O) woven into it by a skilled worker. ³² Hang it with gold hooks on four posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold and standing on four silver bases.^{(P) 33} Hang the curtain from the clasps and place the ark of the covenant law behind the curtain.^(Q) The curtain will separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place.^{(R) 34} Put the atonement cover^(S) on the ark of the covenant law in the Most Holy Place. ³⁵ Place the table^(T) outside the curtain on the north side of the tabernacle and put the lampstand^(U) opposite it on the south side.

³⁶ “For the entrance to the tent make a curtain^(V) of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen—the work of an embroiderer.^{(W) 37} Make gold hooks for this curtain and five posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold. And cast five bronze bases for them.
