²³ Three times each year every man in Israel must appear before the Sovereign, the Lord, the God of Israel.

Three Annual Festivals

¹⁴ “Each year you must celebrate three festivals in my honor.

¹⁶ “Each year every man in Israel must celebrate these three festivals: the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Harvest, and the Festival of Shelters. On each of these occasions, all men must appear before the Lord your God at the place he chooses, but they must not appear before the Lord without a gift for him.

¹⁷ At these three times each year, every man in Israel must appear before the Sovereign, the Lord.

²⁸ “Your name will no longer be Jacob,” the man told him. “From now on you will be called Israel,^[a] because you have fought with God and with men and have won.”

²⁰ And there he built an altar and named it El-Elohe-Israel.^[a]
