Moses Makes New Tablets

34 The Lord said to Moses, ^(A)“Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, ^(B)and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, ^(C)which you broke.

¹⁹ And as soon as he came near the camp and ^(A)saw the calf and the dancing, Moses' anger burned hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain.

New Tablets of Stone

10 “At that time the Lord said to me, ^(A)‘Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and come up to me on the mountain and ^(B)make an ark of wood. ² And I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets that you broke, and ^(C)you shall put them in the ark.’ ³ So I made an ark ^(D)of acacia wood, and ^(E)cut two tablets of stone like the first, and went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hand. ⁴ And ^(F)he wrote on the tablets, in the same writing as before, the Ten Commandments^{[a] (G)}that the Lord had spoken to you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire ^(H)on the day of the assembly. And the Lord gave them to me.

¹⁸ And he gave to Moses, when he had finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, the ^(A)two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written with ^(B)the finger of God.

^15 (A)So I turned and came down from the mountain, and ^(B)the mountain was burning with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands. ¹⁶ And ^(C)I looked, and behold, you had sinned against the Lord your God. You had made yourselves a golden^[a] calf. ^(D)You had turned aside quickly from the way that the Lord had commanded you. ¹⁷ So I took hold of the two tablets and threw them out of my two hands and broke them before your eyes.

^28 (A)So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread nor drank water. And he ^(B)wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.^[a]

^16 (A)The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.
