¹⁹ And he said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you the name, ‘The Lord,’^[a] and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.^(A)

¹⁵ For he says to Moses,

¹⁶ So it depends not on human will or exertion but on God who shows mercy. ¹⁷ For the scripture says to Pharaoh, “I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I may show my power in you and that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth.”^{(B) 18} So then he has mercy on whomever he chooses, and he hardens the heart of whomever he chooses.

⁶ to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. ⁷ In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace^{(A) 8} that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and insight

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son and shall name him Immanuel.^[a](A)

⁵ The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there and proclaimed the name, “The Lord.”^{[a](A) 6} The Lord passed before him and proclaimed,

¹³ But Moses said to God, “If I come to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” ¹⁴ God said to Moses, “I am who I am.”^[a] He said further, “Thus you shall say to the Israelites, ‘I am has sent me to you.’ ”^{(A) 15} God also said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord,^[b] the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you’:
