¹¹ Thus ^(A)the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his ^(B)assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.

⁸ With him I speak ^(A)mouth to mouth, clearly, and not in ^(B)riddles, and he beholds ^(C)the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”

¹⁰ And there has not ^(A)arisen a prophet since in Israel like Moses, ^(B)whom the Lord knew face to face,

⁹ When Moses entered the tent, the ^(A)pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent, and the Lord^[a] would speak with Moses.

¹³ So Moses rose with his assistant ^(A)Joshua, and Moses went up ^(B)into the mountain of God.

⁴ The Lord spoke with you ^(A)face to face at the mountain, out of the midst of the fire,

³⁰ So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel,^[a] saying, “For ^(A)I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.”

¹⁴ You are ^(A)my friends ^(B)if you do what I command you. ^15 (C)No longer do I call you servants,^[a] for the servant ^(D)does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for ^(E)all that I have heard from my Father ^(F)I have made known to you.

²³ and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, ^(A)“Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a ^(B)friend of God.
