⁷ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt,^(A) have become corrupt.^(B)

¹¹ But Moses sought the favor^(A) of the Lord his God. “Lord,” he said, “why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?^(B)

¹² Then the Lord told me, “Go down from here at once, because your people whom you brought out of Egypt have become corrupt.^(A) They have turned away quickly^(B) from what I commanded them and have made an idol for themselves.”

¹⁹ But when the judge died, the people returned to ways even more corrupt^(A) than those of their ancestors,^(B) following other gods and serving and worshiping them.^(C) They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn^(D) ways.

²⁴ The Lord replied, “Go down and bring Aaron^(A) up with you. But the priests and the people must not force their way through to come up to the Lord, or he will break out against them.”^(B)

¹¹ Now the earth was corrupt^(A) in God’s sight and was full of violence.^{(B) 12} God saw how corrupt^(C) the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways.^(D)

²⁴ “Seventy ‘sevens’^[a] are decreed for your people and your holy city^(A) to finish^[b] transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone^(B) for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness,^(C) to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place.^[c]
