³¹ Then Moses ^(A)returned to the Lord and said, “Oh, these people have committed a great sin, and have ^(B)made for themselves a god of gold!

²³ You shall not make anything to be ^(A)with Me—gods of silver or gods of gold you shall not make for yourselves.

¹¹ Yes, ^(A)all Israel has transgressed Your law, and has departed so as not to obey Your voice; therefore the curse and the oath written in the ^(B)Law of Moses the servant of God have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against Him.

⁸ “O Lord, to us belongs shame of face, to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You.

³⁰ Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses said to the people, ^(A)“You have committed a great sin. So now I will go up to the Lord; ^(B)perhaps I can ^(C)make atonement for your sin.”

^5 (A)we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments.

¹⁵ O Lord God of Israel, ^(A)You are righteous, for we are left as a remnant, as it is this day. ^(B)Here we are before You, ^(C)in our guilt, though no one can stand before You because of this!”

⁶ And I said: “O my God, I am too ^(A)ashamed and humiliated to lift up my face to You, my God; for ^(B)our iniquities have risen higher than our heads, and our guilt has ^(C)grown up to the heavens. ⁷ Since the days of our fathers to this day ^(D)we have been very guilty, and for our iniquities ^(E)we, our kings, and our priests have been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the ^(F)sword, to captivity, to plunder, and to ^(G)humiliation,^[a] as it is this day.

¹⁸ And I ^(A)fell^[a] down before the Lord, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin which you committed in doing wickedly in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger. ^19 (B)For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which the Lord was angry with you, to destroy you. ^(C)But the Lord listened to me at that time also.
