³¹ So Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Alas, ^(A)this people has sinned a great sin. They have ^(B)made for themselves gods of gold.

^23 (A)You shall not make gods of silver to be with me, nor shall you make for yourselves gods of gold.

^11 (A)All Israel has transgressed your law and turned aside, ^(B)refusing to obey your voice. ^(C)And the curse and oath ^(D)that are written in the Law of ^(E)Moses the servant of God have been poured out upon us, because ^(F)we have sinned against him.

⁸ To us, O Lord, belongs open shame, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because ^(A)we have sinned against you.

³⁰ The next day Moses said to the people, ^(A)“You have sinned a great sin. And now I will go up to the Lord; ^(B)perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”

^5 (A)we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly ^(B)and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and rules.

^33 (A)Yet you have been righteous in all that has come upon us, for you have dealt faithfully ^(B)and we have acted wickedly.

¹⁵ O Lord, the God of Israel, you are just, for we are left a ^(A)remnant that has escaped, as it is today. Behold, we are before you in our ^(B)guilt, ^(C)for none can stand before you because of this.”

⁶ saying:

“O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift my face to you, my God, for our iniquities ^(A)have risen higher than our heads, and our ^(B)guilt has ^(C)mounted up to the heavens. ^7 (D)From the days of our fathers to this day we have been in great ^(E)guilt. And for our iniquities we, our kings, and our priests have been given into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, to plundering, ^(F)and to utter shame, as it is today.
