¹⁵ For six days work^(A) is to be done, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest,^(B) holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day is to be put to death.

The Sabbath

³ “‘There are six days when you may work,^(A) but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest,^(B) a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work;^(C) wherever you live, it is a sabbath to the Lord.

²³ He said to them, “This is what the Lord commanded: ‘Tomorrow is to be a day of sabbath rest, a holy sabbath^(A) to the Lord. So bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil. Save whatever is left and keep it until morning.’”

²¹ “Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest;^(A) even during the plowing season and harvest^(B) you must rest.

⁵⁶ Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes.^(A) But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.^(B)

¹⁴ Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath,^(A) the synagogue leader^(B) said to the people, “There are six days for work.^(C) So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”

²⁴ But if you are careful to obey me, declares the Lord, and bring no load through the gates of this city on the Sabbath, but keep the Sabbath day holy^(A) by not doing any work on it, ²⁵ then kings who sit on David’s throne^(B) will come through the gates of this city with their officials. They and their officials will come riding in chariots and on horses, accompanied by the men of Judah and those living in Jerusalem, and this city will be inhabited forever.^{(C) 26} People will come from the towns of Judah and the villages around Jerusalem, from the territory of Benjamin and the western foothills, from the hill country and the Negev,^(D) bringing burnt offerings and sacrifices, grain offerings and incense, and bringing thank offerings to the house of the Lord. ²⁷ But if you do not obey^(E) me to keep the Sabbath^(F) day holy by not carrying any load as you come through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle an unquenchable fire^(G) in the gates of Jerusalem that will consume her fortresses.’”^(H)
