⁵ Then he said, “Come no closer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.”^(A)

¹⁵ The commander of the army of the Lord said to Joshua, “Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy.” And Joshua did so.^(A)

³³ Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.^(A)

¹² You shall set limits for the people all around, saying, ‘Be careful not to go up the mountain or to touch the edge of it. Any who touch the mountain shall be put to death.^(A)

Reverence, Humility, and Contentment

5 ^[a]Guard your steps when you go to the house of God; to draw near to listen is better than the sacrifice offered by fools, for they do not know how to keep from doing evil.^[b](A)

²⁰ (For they could not endure the order that was given, “If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned to death.”^(A)

²¹ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go down and warn the people not to break through to see the Lord; otherwise many of them will perish.^(A)

¹⁶ Then Jacob woke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place—and I did not know it!”^{(A) 17} And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”

³ Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord meant when he said,

And Aaron was silent.^(A)
