⁵ Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. ^(A)Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.”

¹⁵ Then the Commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, ^(A)“Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy.” And Joshua did so.

^33 (A)‘Then the Lord said to him, “Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.

¹² You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, ‘Take heed to yourselves that you do not go up to the mountain or touch its base. ^(A)Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death.

Fear God, Keep Your Vows

5 Walk ^(A)prudently when you go to the house of God; and draw near to hear rather ^(B)than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil.

²⁰ (For they could not endure what was commanded: ^(A)“And if so much as a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned ^[a]or shot with an arrow.”

²¹ And the Lord said to Moses, “Go down and warn the people, lest they break through ^(A)to gaze at the Lord, and many of them perish.

¹⁶ Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in ^(A)this place, and I did not know it.” ¹⁷ And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”

³ And Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke, saying:

So Aaron held his peace.
