³² with an opening for the head in its center. There shall be a woven edge like a collar^[a] around this opening, so that it will not tear.

³ Make every effort to keep the unity^(A) of the Spirit through the bond of peace.^{(B) 4} There is one body^(C) and one Spirit,^(D) just as you were called to one hope when you were called^(E); ⁵ one Lord,^(F) one faith, one baptism; ⁶ one God and Father of all,^(G) who is over all and through all and in all.^(H)

⁷ But to each one of us^(I) grace^(J) has been given^(K) as Christ apportioned it. ⁸ This is why it^[a] says:

⁹ (What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions^[c]? ¹⁰ He who descended is the very one who ascended^(N) higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.)^{(O) 11} So Christ himself gave^(P) the apostles,^(Q) the prophets,^(R) the evangelists,^(S) the pastors and teachers,^{(T) 12} to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ^(U) may be built up^{(V) 13} until we all reach unity^(W) in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God^(X) and become mature,^(Y) attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.^(Z)

¹⁴ Then we will no longer be infants,^(AA) tossed back and forth by the waves,^(AB) and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.^{(AC) 15} Instead, speaking the truth in love,^(AD) we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head,^(AE) that is, Christ. ¹⁶ From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows^(AF) and builds itself up^(AG) in love,^(AH) as each part does its work.

²³ When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.

²⁴ “Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”

This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled^(A) that said,

So this is what the soldiers did.

¹⁶ From that day on, half of my men did the work, while the other half were equipped with spears, shields, bows and armor. The officers posted themselves behind all the people of Judah

¹⁴ Uzziah provided shields, spears, helmets, coats of armor, bows and slingstones for the entire army.^(A)

²⁸ and the turban^(A) of fine linen, the linen caps and the undergarments of finely twisted linen.
