³² It shall have an opening for the head in the middle of it, with a woven binding around the opening, like the opening in a garment,^[a] so that it may not tear.

³ eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in ^(A)the bond of peace. ⁴ There is ^(B)one body and ^(C)one Spirit—just as you were called to the one ^(D)hope that belongs to your call— ^5 (E)one Lord, ^(F)one faith, ^(G)one baptism, ^6 (H)one God and Father of all, ^(I)who is over all and through all and in all. ⁷ But ^(J)grace was given ^(K)to each one of us ^(L)according to the measure of Christ's gift. ⁸ Therefore it says,

⁹ (^(O)In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into ^(P)the lower regions, the earth?^{[b] 10} He who descended is the one who also ^(Q)ascended ^(R)far above all the heavens, that he might ^(S)fill all things.) ¹¹ And ^(T)he gave the ^(U)apostles, the prophets, the ^(V)evangelists, the ^(W)shepherds^[c] and teachers,^{[d] 12 (X)}to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for ^(Y)building up ^(Z)the body of Christ, ¹³ until we all attain to ^(AA)the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, ^(AB)to mature manhood,^[e] to the measure of the stature of ^(AC)the fullness of Christ, ¹⁴ so that we may no longer be children, ^(AD)tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in ^(AE)deceitful schemes. ¹⁵ Rather, ^(AF)speaking the truth in love, we are to ^(AG)grow up in every way into him who is ^(AH)the head, into Christ, ^16 (AI)from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, ^(AJ)when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

^23 (A)When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier; also his tunic.^[a] But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom, ²⁴ so they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.” ^(B)This was to fulfill the Scripture which says,

So the soldiers did these things,

¹⁶ From that day on, half of my servants worked on construction, and half held the spears, shields, bows, and ^(A)coats of mail. And the leaders stood behind the whole house of Judah,

¹⁴ And Uzziah prepared for all the army shields, spears, helmets, ^(A)coats of mail, bows, and stones for slinging.

²⁸ and the ^(A)turban of fine linen, and the caps of fine linen, and the linen undergarments of fine twined linen,
