⁶ In my distress^(A) I called to the Lord;^(B)
    I cried to my God for help.
From his temple he heard my voice;^(C)
    my cry came^(D) before him, into his ears.

²⁸ They caused the cry of the poor to come before him,
    so that he heard the cry of the needy.^(A)

¹⁷ You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted;^(A)
    you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,^(B)
18 defending the fatherless^(C) and the oppressed,^(D)
    so that mere earthly mortals
    will never again strike terror.

⁹ “People cry out^(A) under a load of oppression;^(B)
    they plead for relief from the arm of the powerful.^(C)

⁷ He upholds^(A) the cause of the oppressed^(B)
    and gives food to the hungry.^(C)
The Lord sets prisoners free,^(D)
8     the Lord gives sight^(E) to the blind,^(F)
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,^(G)
    the Lord loves the righteous.^(H)
9 The Lord watches over the foreigner^(I)
    and sustains the fatherless^(J) and the widow,^(K)
    but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.
