²⁴ eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,^(A)

²¹ Show no pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.^(A)

² For the judgment you give will be the judgment you get, and the measure you give will be the measure you get.

Concerning Retaliation

³⁸ “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’^{(A) 39} But I say to you: Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also,^{(B) 40} and if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, give your coat as well,

⁶ Adoni-bezek fled, but they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thumbs and big toes. ⁷ Adoni-bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to pick up scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has paid me back.” They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

¹⁹ Anyone who maims another shall suffer the same injury in return: ²⁰ fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; the injury inflicted is the injury to be suffered.^(A)

³⁸ give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap, for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.”^(A)

³³ Samuel said,

And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal.^(A)

²⁶ “When a slaveowner strikes the eye of a male or female slave, destroying it, the owner shall let the slave go, a free person, to compensate for the eye. ²⁷ If the owner knocks out a tooth of a male or female slave, the slave shall be let go, a free person, to compensate for the tooth.
