^24 (A)eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

^21 (A)Your eye shall not pity. ^(B)It shall be life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

^2 (A)For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and ^(B)with the measure you use it will be measured to you.

Retaliation

^38 (A)“You have heard that it was said, ^(B)‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ ³⁹ But I say to you, ^(C)Do not resist the one who is evil. But ^(D)if anyone ^(E)slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. ⁴⁰ And ^(F)if anyone would sue you and take your tunic,^[a] let him have your cloak as well.

⁶ Adoni-bezek fled, but they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thumbs and his big toes. ⁷ And Adoni-bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and their big toes cut off ^(A)used to pick up scraps under my table. ^(B)As I have done, so God has repaid me.” And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

¹⁹ If anyone injures his neighbor, ^(A)as he has done it shall be done to him, ²⁰ fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; whatever injury he has given a person shall be given to him.

^38 (A)give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put ^(B)into your lap. For ^(C)with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

³³ And Samuel said, ^(A)“As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women.” And Samuel hacked Agag to pieces before the Lord ^(B)in Gilgal.
