⁶ but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation^[a] of those who love me and keep my commandments.^(A)

⁹ Know, therefore, that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who maintains covenant loyalty with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,^(A)

³⁹ For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him.”^(A)

³⁹ I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me for all time, for their own good and the good of their children after them.^{(A) 40} I will make an everlasting covenant with them, never to draw back from doing good to them, and I will put the fear of me in their hearts, so that they may not turn from me.

³ For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome,^(A)

²¹ They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me, and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.”^(A)

²⁹ If only they had such a mind as this, to fear me and to keep all my commandments always, so that it might go well with them and with their children forever!^(A)

³⁷ And because he loved your ancestors, he chose their descendants after them. He brought you out of Egypt with his own presence, by his great power,^(A)

²⁸ As regards the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but as regards election they are beloved for the sake of their ancestors, ²⁹ for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
