¹⁵ When Pharaoh heard of it, he sought to kill Moses. But ^(A)Moses fled from Pharaoh and stayed in the land of Midian. And he sat down by ^(B)a well.

²⁷ By faith he ^(A)left Egypt, ^(B)not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured ^(C)as seeing him who is invisible.

²⁹ At this retort ^(A)Moses fled and became an exile in the land of Midian, ^(B)where he became the father of two sons.

² As he looked, he saw a well in the field, and behold, three flocks of sheep lying beside it, for out of that well the flocks were watered. The stone on the well's mouth was large,

¹¹ And he made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time when ^(A)women go out to draw water.

⁶ Jacob's well was there; so Jesus, ^(A)wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.^[a]

²³ When they ^(A)persecute you in one town, ^(B)flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel ^(C)before the Son of Man comes.

¹³ And when Elijah heard it, ^(A)he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, ^(B)there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” ¹⁴ He said, ^(C)“I have been very jealous for the Lord, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, ^(D)thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.”

Elijah Flees Jezebel

19 Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how ^(A)he had killed all the prophets with the sword. ² Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, ^(B)“So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.” ³ Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life and came to ^(C)Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.
