¹⁵ And he said to the people, “Be ready for the third day; ^(A)do not come near your wives.”

^5 (A)Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that ^(B)Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

¹¹ And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.

⁴ And the priest answered David and said, “There is no ^[a]common bread on hand; but there is ^(A)holy^[b] bread, ^(B)if the young men have at least kept themselves from women.”

⁵ Then David answered the priest, and said to him, “Truly, women have been kept from us about three days since I came out. And ^[c]the ^(C)vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in effect common, even though it was consecrated ^(D)in the vessel this day.”

¹¹ Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be ^(A)in holy conduct and godliness, ^12 (B)looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will ^(C)be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will ^(D)melt with fervent heat?

^44 (A)Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

¹⁰ And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. ^(A)Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. ^11 (B)I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. ^(C)He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit ^[a]and fire. ^12 (D)His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will ^(E)burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

³ and to ^(A)ask the priests who were in the house of the Lord of hosts, and the prophets, saying, “Should I weep in ^(B)the fifth month and ^[a]fast as I have done for so many years?”
