^14 (A)So it shall be, when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ that you shall say to him, ^(B)‘By strength of hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

⁶ that this may be ^(A)a sign among you ^(B)when your children ask in time to come, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’

The Feast of Unleavened Bread^(A)

³ And Moses said to the people: ^(B)“Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of ^[a]bondage; for ^(C)by strength of hand the Lord brought you out of this place. ^(D)No leavened bread shall be eaten.

^20 (A)“When your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies, the statutes, and the judgments which the Lord our God has commanded you?’ ²¹ then you shall say to your son: ‘We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt ^(B)with a mighty hand; ²² and the Lord showed signs and wonders before our eyes, great and severe, against Egypt, Pharaoh, and all his household. ²³ Then He brought us out from there, that He might bring us in, to give us the land of which He ^[a]swore to our fathers. ²⁴ And the Lord commanded us to ^[b]observe all these ^[c]statutes, ^(C)to fear the Lord our God, ^(D)for our good always, that ^(E)He might preserve us alive, as it is ^[d]this day.

^26 (A)And it shall be, when your children say to you, ‘What do you mean by this service?’ ²⁷ that you shall say, ^(B)‘It is the Passover sacrifice of the Lord, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt when He struck the Egyptians and delivered our households.’ ” So the people ^(C)bowed their heads and worshiped.

²⁴ But in fact we have done it ^[a]for fear, for a reason, saying, ‘In time to come your descendants may speak to our descendants, saying, “What have you to do with the Lord God of Israel?

²¹ Then he spoke to the children of Israel, saying: ^(A)“When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What are these stones?’ ²² then you shall let your children know, saying, ^(B)‘Israel crossed over this Jordan on ^(C)dry land’; ²³ for the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, ^(D)which He dried up before us until we had crossed over, ^24 (E)that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is ^(F)mighty, that you may ^(G)fear the Lord your God ^[a]forever.”

⁹ It shall be as ^(A)a sign to you on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the Lord’s law may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand the Lord has brought you out of Egypt.
