“No one is to appear before me empty-handed.^(C)

¹⁵ The first offspring of every womb, both human and animal, that is offered to the Lord is yours.^(A) But you must redeem^(B) every firstborn^(C) son and every firstborn male of unclean animals.^{(D) 16} When they are a month old,^(E) you must redeem them at the redemption price set at five shekels^[a](F) of silver, according to the sanctuary shekel,^(G) which weighs twenty gerahs.^(H)

¹⁷ “But you must not redeem the firstborn of a cow, a sheep or a goat; they are holy.^(I) Splash their blood^(J) against the altar and burn their fat^(K) as a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.^(L)

⁴ These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins.^(A) They follow the Lamb wherever he goes.^(B) They were purchased from among mankind^(C) and offered as firstfruits^(D) to God and the Lamb.

⁴⁶ To redeem^(A) the 273 firstborn Israelites who exceed the number of the Levites, ⁴⁷ collect five shekels^[a](B) for each one, according to the sanctuary shekel,^(C) which weighs twenty gerahs.^{(D) 48} Give the money for the redemption^(E) of the additional Israelites to Aaron and his sons.”^(F)

⁴⁹ So Moses collected the redemption money^(G) from those who exceeded the number redeemed by the Levites. ⁵⁰ From the firstborn of the Israelites^(H) he collected silver weighing 1,365 shekels,^[b](I) according to the sanctuary shekel. ⁵¹ Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons, as he was commanded by the word of the Lord.

²¹ Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go at once and select the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover^(A) lamb.

³ Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb^[a](A) for his family, one for each household.^(B)
