²¹ Then ^(A)Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go and ^(B)take for yourselves ^[a]lambs according to your families, and slaughter ^(C)the Passover lamb. ²² And ^(D)you shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and ^[b]apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the door of his house until morning.

A Memorial of Redemption

²³ For ^(E)the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians; but when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and will ^(F)not allow the ^(G)destroyer to come in to your houses to strike you. ²⁴ And ^(H)you shall keep this event as an ordinance for you and your children forever. ²⁵ When you enter the land which the Lord will give you, as He has ^[c]promised, you shall keep this ^[d]rite. ^26 (I)And when your children say to you, ‘^[e]What does this rite mean to you?’ ²⁷ then you shall say, ‘It is a Passover sacrifice to ^(J)the Lord because He passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He struck the Egyptians, but ^[f]spared our homes.’” ^(K)And the people bowed low and worshiped.

²⁸ Then the sons of Israel went and did so; just as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.

²⁹ Now it came about at ^(L)midnight that ^(M)the Lord struck all ^(N)the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of ^(O)cattle. ³⁰ And Pharaoh got up in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians, and there was ^(P)a great cry in Egypt, for there was no home where there was not someone dead. ³¹ Then ^(Q)he called for Moses and Aaron at night and said, “Rise up, ^(R)get out from among my people, both you and the sons of Israel; and go, ^[g]worship the Lord, as you have said. ³² Take ^(S)both your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and go, and bless me also.”

Exodus of Israel

^33 (T)The Egyptians urged the people, to send them out of the land in a hurry, for they said, “We will all be dead.” ³⁴ So the people took ^(U)their dough before it was leavened, with their kneading bowls bound up in the clothes on their shoulders.

^35 (V)Now the sons of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, for they had requested from the Egyptians articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing; ³⁶ and the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have their request. Therefore they ^(W)plundered the Egyptians.

³⁷ Now the ^(X)sons of Israel journeyed from ^(Y)Rameses to Succoth, about ^(Z)six hundred thousand men on foot, aside from children. ³⁸ A ^(AA)mixed multitude also went up with them, ^[h]along with flocks and herds, a ^(AB)very large number of livestock. ³⁹ And they baked the dough which they had brought out of Egypt into cakes of unleavened bread. For it had no yeast, since they were ^(AC)driven out of Egypt and could not delay, nor had they ^[i]prepared any provisions for themselves.

⁴⁰ Now the time ^[j]that the sons of Israel had lived in Egypt was ^(AD)430 years. ⁴¹ And at the end of 430 years, on ^(AE)this very day, ^(AF)all the ^[k]multitudes of the Lord departed from the land of Egypt.

Ordinance of the Passover

^42 (AG)It is a night ^[l]to be observed for the Lord, for having brought them out of the land of Egypt; this night is for the Lord, ^[m]to be observed by all the sons of Israel throughout their generations.

⁴³ And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the ordinance of ^(AH)the Passover: no ^[n](AI)foreigner is to eat it; ⁴⁴ but as for every ^(AJ)slave ^[o]that someone has purchased with money, after you have circumcised him, then he may eat it. ^45 (AK)A stranger or a hired worker shall not eat it. ⁴⁶ It is to be eaten in a single house; you are not to bring any of the meat outside of the house, ^(AL)nor are you to break any bone of it. ^47 (AM)All the congregation of Israel are to ^[p]celebrate this. ⁴⁸ But ^(AN)if a stranger resides with you and ^[q]celebrates the Passover to the Lord, all of his males are to be circumcised, and then he shall come near to ^[r]celebrate it; and he shall be like a native of the land. But no uncircumcised male may eat it. ^49 [s](AO)The same law shall ^[t]apply to the native as to the stranger who resides among you.”

⁵⁰ Then all the sons of Israel did so; they did just as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron. ⁵¹ And on that very day ^(AP)the Lord brought the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt ^(AQ)according to their ^[u]multitudes.

The Lost Sheep

15 Now all the ^(A)tax collectors and ^[a]sinners were coming near ^[b]Jesus to listen to Him. ² And both the Pharisees and the scribes began to complain, saying, “This Man receives sinners and ^(B)eats with them.”

³ And so He told them this parable, saying, ⁴ “^(C)What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the other ninety-nine in the ^[c]open pasture and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? ⁵ And when he has found it, he puts it on his shoulders, rejoicing. ⁶ And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost!’ ⁷ I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.

The Lost Coin

⁸ “Or what woman, if she has ten ^[d]silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? ⁹ And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found the coin which I had lost!’ ¹⁰ In the same way, I tell you, there is joy ^(D)in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

The Prodigal Son

¹¹ And He said, “A man had two sons. ¹² The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me ^(E)the share of the estate that ^[e]is coming to me.’ And so he divided his ^[f](F)wealth between them. ¹³ And not many days later, the younger son gathered everything together and went on a journey to a distant country, and there he squandered his estate in ^[g]wild living. ¹⁴ Now when he had ^[h]spent everything, a severe famine occurred in that country, and he began doing without. ¹⁵ So he went and ^[i]hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed pigs. ¹⁶ And he longed to have his fill of the carob pods that the pigs were eating, and no one was giving him anything. ¹⁷ But when he came to ^[j]his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired laborers have more than enough bread, but I am dying here ^[k]from hunger! ¹⁸ I will set out and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and ^[l]in your sight; ¹⁹ I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired laborers.”’ ²⁰ So he set out and came to ^[m]his father. But when he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and ^[n](G)embraced him and kissed him. ²¹ And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and ^[o]in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ ²² But the father said to his slaves, ‘Quickly bring out ^(H)the best robe and put it on him, and ^[p](I)put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet; ²³ and bring the fattened calf, slaughter it, and let’s eat and celebrate; ²⁴ for this son of mine was ^(J)dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.’ And they began to celebrate.

²⁵ “Now his older son was in the field, and when he came and approached the house, he heard music and dancing. ²⁶ And he summoned one of the servants and began inquiring what these things could be. ²⁷ And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf because he has received him back safe and sound.’ ²⁸ But he became angry and was not willing to go in; and his father came out and began pleading with him. ²⁹ But he answered and said to his father, ‘Look! For so many years I have been serving you and I have never ^[q]neglected a command of yours; and yet you never gave me a young goat, so that I might celebrate with my friends; ³⁰ but when this son of yours came, who has devoured your ^[r](K)wealth with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fattened calf for him.’ ³¹ And he said to him, ‘Son, you ^[s]have always been with me, and all that is mine is yours. ³² But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was ^(L)dead and has begun to live, and was lost and has been found.’”
