³⁵ Then the Lord sent a plague on the people, because they made the calf, the one that Aaron made.

⁴¹ And ^(A)they made a calf in those days, and offered a sacrifice to the idol and ^(B)were rejoicing in ^(C)the works of their hands.

¹⁸ (Now this man ^(A)acquired a field with ^(B)the reward of his wickedness, and falling headlong^[a] he burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out.

Judas Hangs Himself

³ Then when ^(A)Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus^[a] was condemned, ^(B)he changed his mind and brought back ^(C)the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, ⁴ saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? ^(D)See to it yourself.” ⁵ And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, ^(E)he departed, and he went and hanged himself. ⁶ But the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into ^(F)the treasury, since it is blood money.” ⁷ So they took counsel and bought with them the potter's field as a burial place for strangers.

^9 (A)Why have you despised the word of the Lord, ^(B)to do what is evil in his sight? ^(C)You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and ^(D)have taken his wife to be your wife and have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’
