Haman Is Hanged

And the king arose (A)in his wrath from [a]drinking wine and went into (B)the garden of his palace; but Haman stayed to seek for his life from Queen Esther, for he saw that calamity had been determined against him by the king. Now the king returned from the garden of his palace into the [b]place where they were drinking wine. And Haman was falling on (C)the couch where Esther was. So the king said, “Will he even assault the queen with me in the house?” As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face. Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs who were before the king, said, “Behold indeed, (D)the gallows—which Haman made for Mordecai (E)who spoke good on behalf of the king—are standing at Haman’s house fifty cubits high!” And the king said, “Hang him on it.” 10 (F)So they hanged Haman on the [c]gallows which he had set up for Mordecai, (G)and the king’s wrath subsided.

The king rose from the feast in wrath and went into the palace garden, but Haman stayed to beg his life from Queen Esther, for he saw that the king had determined to destroy him. When the king returned from the palace garden to the banquet hall, Haman had thrown himself on the couch where Esther was reclining, and the king said, “Will he even violate the queen in my presence, in my own house?” As the words left the mouth of the king, they covered Haman’s face.(A) Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs in attendance on the king, said, “Look, the very pole that Haman has prepared for Mordecai, whose word saved the king,[a] stands at Haman’s house, fifty cubits high.” And the king said, “Hang him on that.”(B) 10 So they hung Haman on the pole that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the anger of the king abated.
