Haman plant die Vernichtung des jüdischen Volkes (Kapitel 3–5)
Haman wird zum Feind der Juden
3 Einige Zeit später gab König Xerxes einem Mann namens Haman die höchste Stellung am Königshof. Er war ein Sohn von Hammedata und Nachkomme von Agag. 2 Alle Beamten im Palast waren ihm untergeordnet. Sie mussten sich auf Befehl des Königs vor Haman niederwerfen, wenn er an ihnen vorüberging. Nur Mordechai verneigte sich nicht vor ihm.
3 Da fragten ihn die anderen Beamten: »Weshalb widersetzt du dich der Anordnung des Königs?« 4 »Weil ich Jude bin«, antwortete er. Sie ließen ihm keine Ruhe und machten ihm jeden Tag Vorwürfe. Doch Mordechai hörte nicht auf sie. Da meldeten sie es Haman, um zu sehen, ob er Mordechais Begründung gelten lassen würde.
5 Als Haman erfuhr, dass Mordechai sich nicht vor ihm niederwarf, packte ihn der Zorn. 6 Er wollte sich aber nicht an Mordechai allein rächen, denn er hatte gehört, dass er Jude war. So schmiedete er einen Plan, um alle Juden im persischen Reich zu vernichten.
7 Im 12. Regierungsjahr von König Xerxes, im 1. Monat, dem Monat Nisan, ließ Haman das Los werfen, das auch »Pur« genannt wurde. Er wollte herausfinden, welcher Zeitpunkt am besten geeignet sei, um seinen Plan durchzuführen. Das Los fiel auf den 13. Tag[a] des 12. Monats, das ist der Monat Adar. 8 Darauf sagte Haman zum König: »In allen Provinzen deines Reiches leben Angehörige eines Volkes, das sich von den anderen Völkern absondert. Sie haben andere Sitten und Gesetze als die übrigen Völker und widersetzen sich deinen Anordnungen. Das darfst du dir nicht gefallen lassen! 9 Wenn du es für richtig hältst, dann befiehl durch einen Erlass die Vernichtung dieses Volkes. Dies wird den königlichen Schatzkammern 350 Tonnen Silber einbringen.«
10 Da zog der König seinen Siegelring vom Finger, gab ihn Haman, dem erbitterten Feind der Juden, 11 und sagte zu ihm: »Hol dir das Geld dieses Volkes! Und mit den Leuten selbst kannst du tun, was du für richtig hältst.«
12 Am 13. Tag des 1. Monats ließ Haman die Schreiber des Königs rufen. Sie mussten genau nach seinen Anweisungen Briefe schreiben, die an die Fürsten des Königs, an die Provinzstatthalter und an die höchsten Beamten der einzelnen Völker gerichtet waren. Jede Volksgruppe sollte das Schreiben in ihrer eigenen Schrift und Sprache erhalten. Die Briefe waren im Namen des Königs verfasst und mit seinem Siegel versehen. 13 Sie lauteten:
»An einem einzigen Tag, am 13. Tag des 12. Monats, des Monats Adar, sollen alle Juden getötet werden – Junge und Alte, Kinder und Frauen. Niemand darf überleben! Ihr Besitz ist zu beschlagnahmen.«
Der Erlass sollte von Eilboten in alle Provinzen des Reiches gebracht 14 und dort als Gesetz bestätigt werden, damit alle Volksgruppen auf diesen bestimmten Tag vorbereitet waren. 15 Der König befahl den Eilboten, sich schnell auf den Weg zu machen. Auch in der Residenz Susa wurde der Erlass veröffentlicht. Und während die Menschen in der ganzen Stadt in heller Aufregung waren, hielten der König und Haman ein Trinkgelage ab.

3 After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman, the son of Hammedatha the (A)Agagite, and (B)advanced him and set his seat above all the princes who were with him. 2 And all the king’s servants who were (C)within the king’s gate bowed and paid homage to Haman, for so the king had commanded concerning him. But Mordecai (D)would not bow or pay homage. 3 Then the king’s servants who were within the king’s gate said to Mordecai, “Why do you transgress the (E)king’s command?” 4 Now it happened, when they spoke to him daily and he would not listen to them, that they told it to Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s words would stand; for Mordecai had told them that he was a Jew. 5 When Haman saw that Mordecai (F)did not bow or pay him homage, Haman was (G)filled with wrath. 6 But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone, for they had told him of the people of Mordecai. Instead, Haman (H)sought to destroy all the Jews who were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus—the people of Mordecai.
7 In the first month, which is the month of Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, (I)they cast Pur (that is, the lot), before Haman [a]to determine the day and the [b]month, [c]until it fell on the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar.
8 Then Haman said to King Ahasuerus, “There is a certain people scattered and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom; (J)their laws are different from all other people’s, and they do not keep the king’s laws. Therefore it is not fitting for the king to let them remain. 9 If it pleases the king, let a decree be written that they be destroyed, and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those who do the work, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.”
10 So the king (K)took (L)his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the (M)enemy of the Jews. 11 And the king said to Haman, “The money and the people are given to you, to do with them as seems good to you.”
12 (N)Then the king’s scribes were called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and a decree was written according to all that Haman commanded—to the king’s satraps, to the governors who were over each province, to the officials of all people, to every province (O)according to its script, and to every people in their language. (P)In the name of King Ahasuerus it was written, and sealed with the king’s signet ring. 13 And the letters were (Q)sent by couriers into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to annihilate all the Jews, both young and old, little children and women, (R)in one day, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, and (S)to plunder their [d]possessions. 14 (T)A copy of the document was to be issued as law in every province, being published for all people, that they should be ready for that day. 15 The couriers went out, hastened by the king’s command; and the decree was proclaimed in [e]Shushan the [f]citadel. 3 Depois dessas coisas, o rei Assuero engrandeceu a Hamã, filho de Hamedata, agagita, e o exaltou; e pôs o seu lugar acima de todos os príncipes que estavam com ele. 2 E todos os servos do rei, que estavam à porta do rei, se inclinavam e se prostravam perante Hamã; porque assim tinha ordenado o rei acerca dele; porém Mardoqueu não se inclinava nem se prostrava. 3 Então, os servos do rei, que estavam à porta do rei, disseram a Mardoqueu: Por que traspassas o mandado do rei? 4 Sucedeu, pois, que, dizendo-lhe eles isso, de dia em dia, e não lhes dando ele ouvidos, o fizeram saber a Hamã, para verem se as palavras de Mardoqueu se sustentariam, porque ele lhes tinha declarado que era judeu. 5 Vendo, pois, Hamã que Mardoqueu não se inclinava nem se prostrava diante dele, Hamã se encheu de furor. 6 Porém, em seus olhos, teve em pouco o pôr as mãos só sobre Mardoqueu (porque lhe haviam declarado o povo de Mardoqueu); Hamã, pois, procurou destruir todos os judeus que havia em todo o reino de Assuero, ao povo de Mardoqueu.
Hamã pretende matar todos os judeus
7 No primeiro mês (que é o mês de nisã), no ano duodécimo do rei Assuero, se lançou Pur, isto é, a sorte, perante Hamã, de dia em dia e de mês em mês, até ao duodécimo mês, que é o mês de adar. 8 E Hamã disse ao rei Assuero: Existe espalhado e dividido entre os povos em todas as províncias do teu reino um povo cujas leis são diferentes das leis de todos os povos e que não cumpre as leis do rei; pelo que não convém ao rei deixá-lo ficar. 9 Se bem parecer ao rei, escreva-se que os matem; e eu porei nas mãos dos que fizerem a obra dez mil talentos de prata, para que entrem nos tesouros do rei. 10 Então, tirou o rei o anel da sua mão e o deu a Hamã, filho de Hamedata, agagita, adversário dos judeus. 11 E disse o rei a Hamã: Essa prata te é dada, como também esse povo, para fazeres dele o que bem parecer aos teus olhos.
12 Então, chamaram os escrivães do rei no primeiro mês, no dia treze do mesmo, e conforme tudo quanto Hamã mandou se escreveu aos príncipes do rei, e aos governadores que havia sobre cada província, e aos principais de cada povo; a cada província segundo a sua escritura e a cada povo segundo a sua língua; em nome do rei Assuero se escreveu, e com o anel do rei se selou. 13 E as cartas se enviaram pela mão dos correios a todas as províncias do rei, que destruíssem, matassem, e lançassem a perder a todos os judeus desde o moço até ao velho, crianças e mulheres, em um mesmo dia, a treze do duodécimo mês (que é mês de adar), e que saqueassem o seu despojo. 14 Uma cópia do escrito para que se proclamasse a lei em cada província foi enviada a todos os povos, para que estivessem preparados para aquele dia. 15 Os correios, pois, impelidos pela palavra do rei, saíram, e a lei se proclamou na fortaleza de Susã; e o rei e Hamã se assentaram a beber; porém a cidade de Susã estava confusa.
