Esther 10

World English Bible

10 King Ahasuerus laid a tribute on the land and on the islands of the sea. ²Aren’t all the acts of his power and of his might, and the full account of the greatness of Mordecai, to which the king advanced him, written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia? ³For Mordecai the Jew was next to King Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews and accepted by the multitude of his brothers, seeking the good of his people and speaking peace to all his descendants.

The Greatness of Xerxes and Mordecai

10 King Xerxes made everyone in his kingdom pay taxes, even those in lands across the sea. ²All the great and famous things that King Xerxes did are written in the record books of the kings of Media and Persia. These records also tell about the honors that the king gave to Mordecai. ³Next to the king himself, Mordecai was the highest official in the kingdom. He was a popular leader of the Jews, because he helped them in many ways and would even speak to the king on their behalf.

10 And King Ahasuerus imposed tribute on the land and on ^(A)the islands of the sea. ²Now all the acts of his power and his might, and the account of the greatness of Mordecai, ^(B)to which the king ^[a]advanced him, are they not written in the book of the ^(C)chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia? ³For Mordecai the Jew was ^(D)second to King Ahasuerus, and was great among the Jews and well received by the multitude of his brethren, ^(E)seeking the good of his people and speaking peace to all his ^[b]countrymen.
