Mordecai’s Greatness

10 Now King Ahasuerus imposed a tax on the land and the (A)coastlands of the sea. And every accomplishment of his authority and power, and the full account of the greatness of Mordecai (B)with which the king honored him, are they not written in (C)the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Media and Persia? For Mordecai the Jew was (D)second only to King Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews and in favor with his many kinsmen, (E)one who sought the good of his people and one who spoke for the welfare of his entire [a]nation.

10 Le roi Assuérus soumit à la corvée aussi bien la partie continentale du pays que les îles. Tout ce qu’il a accompli par sa puissance et sa force, ainsi que les détails sur le rôle important qu’il a accordé à Mardochée, cela est décrit dans les annales des rois des Mèdes et des Perses. En effet, le Juif Mardochée était l’adjoint du roi Assuérus. Il jouait un rôle important pour les Juifs et était très apprécié de ses nombreux frères. Il recherchait le bonheur de son peuple et contribua par ses paroles au bien-être de toute sa lignée.

10 King Xerxes imposed tribute throughout the empire, to its distant shores.(A) And all his acts of power and might, together with a full account of the greatness of Mordecai,(B) whom the king had promoted,(C) are they not written in the book of the annals(D) of the kings of Media and Persia? Mordecai the Jew was second(E) in rank(F) to King Xerxes,(G) preeminent among the Jews, and held in high esteem by his many fellow Jews, because he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for the welfare of all the Jews.(H)
