Mordechai in hoog aanzien
10 Koning Ahasveros legde niet alleen belasting op aan zijn onderdanen op het vasteland, maar ook aan die op de eilanden. 2 Al zijn geweldige, indrukwekkende daden zijn opgeschreven in het boek ‘De Kronieken van de Koningen van Medië en Perzië.’ Daarin staat ook een nauwkeurige beschrijving van de hoge positie waartoe de koning Mordechai had verheven. 3 Want de Jood Mordechai was, op koning Ahasveros na, de machtigste man van het rijk. Hij stond hoog in aanzien bij de Joden en was geliefd bij al zijn landgenoten. Want hij deed zijn best voor zijn volksgenoten en kwam op voor hun belangen.

Mordecai’s Greatness
10 Then King Ahasuerus charged a tribute on the land and on the coastal lands of the sea. 2 All the deeds of his power and of his might, and the detailed record of the greatness of Mordecai, after the king promoted him, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia? 3 Indeed, Mordecai the Jew was second in power to King Ahasuerus. He was great among the Jews and popular with many of his countrymen, for he sought favor for his people, and spoke of peace and prosperity for all of his posterity.

The Greatness of Mordecai
10 King Xerxes imposed tribute throughout the empire, to its distant shores.(A) 2 And all his acts of power and might, together with a full account of the greatness of Mordecai,(B) whom the king had promoted,(C) are they not written in the book of the annals(D) of the kings of Media and Persia? 3 Mordecai the Jew was second(E) in rank(F) to King Xerxes,(G) preeminent among the Jews, and held in high esteem by his many fellow Jews, because he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for the welfare of all the Jews.(H)
