The Greatness of Mordecai
10 King Ahasuerus imposed tax on the land and on (A)the coastlands of the sea. 2 And all the acts of his power and might, and the full account of the high honor of Mordecai, (B)to which the king advanced him, are they not written in (C)the Book of the Chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia? 3 For Mordecai the Jew was (D)second in rank to King Ahasuerus, and he was great among the Jews and popular with the multitude of his brothers, for he (E)sought the welfare of his people and spoke peace to all his people.

10 El rey Jerjes obligó a que se pagaran impuestos en todas las provincias de su reino, incluso en las tierras más lejanas de la costa. 2 La historia del gran poder del rey Jerjes está escrita en El libro de los hechos de los reyes de Media y de Persia. Igualmente, se relata la forma como el rey Jerjes asciende a Mardoqueo a un cargo muy importante dentro del reino. 3 Mardoqueo, el judío, fue el segundo en importancia después del rey Jerjes. Entre los judíos fue hombre reconocido y respetado porque buscó el bienestar de sus hermanos y compatriotas, y trajo paz a todo su pueblo.
