Esther 10
Contemporary English Version
The Greatness of Xerxes and Mordecai
10 King Xerxes made everyone in his kingdom pay taxes, even those in lands across the sea. 2 All the great and famous things that King Xerxes did are written in the record books of the kings of Media and Persia. These records also tell about the honors that the king gave to Mordecai. 3 Next to the king himself, Mordecai was the highest official in the kingdom. He was a popular leader of the Jews, because he helped them in many ways and would even speak to the king on their behalf.

10 King Ahasuerus imposed tax on the land and on (A)the coastlands of the sea. 2 And all the acts of his power and might, and the full account of the high honor of Mordecai, (B)to which the king advanced him, are they not written in (C)the Book of the Chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia? 3 For Mordecai the Jew was (D)second in rank to King Ahasuerus, and he was great among the Jews and popular with the multitude of his brothers, for he (E)sought the welfare of his people and spoke peace to all his people.
