7 Il re e Haman andarono dunque al banchetto con la regina Ester.
2 Anche il secondo giorno, mentre durante il banchetto veniva servito il vino, il re disse a Ester: «Qual è la tua richiesta, o regina Ester? Ti sarà concessa. Che cosa domandi? Fosse anche la metà del mio regno, sarà fatto».
3 Allora la regina Ester rispose dicendo: «Se ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, o re, e se cosí piace al re, la mia richiesta è che mi sia concessa la vita; e domando che il mio popolo sia risparmiato.
4 Poiché io e il mio popolo siamo stati venduti per essere distrutti, uccisi e sterminati. Se fossimo stati venduti per diventare schiavi e schiave, avrei taciuto; ma il nemico non potrebbe mai compensare il danno che ne verrebbe al re».
5 Il re Assuero disse alla regina Ester: «Chi è e dov'è colui che avrebbe l'ardire di fare una tale cosa?».
6 Ester rispose: «Il nemico e l'avversario è quel malvagio di Haman». Allora Haman fu preso da terrore alla presenza del re e della regina.
7 Il re si alzò tutto adirato dal banchetto in cui veniva servito il vino e si recò nel giardino del palazzo mentre Haman rimase a supplicare la regina Ester per la sua vita, perché aveva capito che il re aveva già deciso la sua rovina.
8 Poi il re tornò dal giardino del palazzo nel luogo del banchetto dove era servito il vino; intanto Haman si era lasciato cadere sul divano su cui stava Ester. Allora il re esclamò: «Vuol pure far violenza alla regina, mentre io stesso sono in casa?». Non appena questa parola fu uscita dalla bocca del re, copersero la faccia di Haman.
9 Poi Harbonah, uno degli eunuchi, disse davanti al re: «Ecco, in casa di Haman stesso è stata rizzata una forca alta cinquanta cubiti, che Haman ha fatto preparare per Mardocheo, il quale aveva parlato per il bene del re». Il re disse: «Impiccatevi lui!».
10 Cosí Haman fu impiccato alla forca che egli aveva preparato per Mardocheo. E l'ira del re si placò.

Haman Is Put to Death
7 So the king and Haman went to Queen Esther’s feast. 2 They were drinking wine on the second day. The king again asked, “What do you want, Queen Esther? I’ll give it to you. What do you want me to do for you? I’ll even give you up to half of my kingdom.”
3 Then Queen Esther answered, “Your Majesty, I hope you will be pleased to let me live. That’s what I want. Please spare my people. That’s my appeal to you. 4 My people and I have been sold to be destroyed. We’ve been sold to be killed and wiped out. Suppose we had only been sold as male and female slaves. Then I wouldn’t have said anything. That kind of suffering wouldn’t be a good enough reason to bother you.”
5 King Xerxes asked Queen Esther, “Who is the man who has dared to do such a thing? And where is he?”
6 Esther said, “The man hates us! He’s our enemy! He’s this evil Haman!”
Then Haman was terrified in front of the king and queen. 7 The king got up. He was very angry. He left his wine and went out into the palace garden. But Haman realized that the king had already decided what he was going to do to him. So he stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life.
8 The king returned from the palace garden to the dinner hall. Just then he saw Haman falling on the couch where Esther was lying.
The king shouted, “Will he even treat the queen like this? Will he harm her while she’s right here with me in the palace?”
As soon as the king finished speaking, his men covered Haman’s face. 9 Then Harbona said, “There’s a pole standing near Haman’s house. He has prepared it for Mordecai. Mordecai is the one who spoke up to help you. Haman had planned to have him put to death. He was going to have the pole stuck through his body. Then he was going to set it up at a place where it would be 75 feet above the ground.” Harbona was one of the officials who attended the king.
The king said to his men, “Put Haman to death! Stick the pole through his body! Set it up where everyone can see it!” 10 So they did. And they used the pole Haman had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s anger calmed down.

7 王带着哈曼去赴以斯帖王后的宴席。 2 在这第二次宴会中，王在席间又问以斯帖：“以斯帖王后啊，你要什么？我必赐给你。你有何要求？就是半壁江山，也必为你成就。” 3 以斯帖回答说：“我若得到王的恩宠，王若愿意，就请王把我的性命和我本族人的性命赐给我——这是我所求的。 4 因为我和我本族的人都被卖了，我们将被铲除、杀光、灭尽。如果只是卖我们为奴为婢，我会闭口不语，因为那样的痛苦不值得来打扰王[a]。” 5 亚哈随鲁王问以斯帖王后：“谁敢这样做？他在哪里？” 6 以斯帖回答说：“敌人和仇家就是这恶人哈曼！”哈曼在王和王后面前十分惊恐。
7 王大怒，离席去了御花园。哈曼见王定意要惩罚他，便留下来求以斯帖王后饶命。 8 王从御花园回到席上，见哈曼伏在以斯帖所靠的榻上，便说：“他竟敢在宫中当着我的面侮辱王后吗？”王这话一出口，便有人蒙了哈曼的脸。 9 服侍王的太监哈波拿说：“哈曼为那救驾有功的末底改做了一个二十三米高的木架，如今正立在哈曼家里。”王说：“把哈曼吊在上面！” 10 于是，哈曼被吊在他为末底改预备的木架上，王的怒气这才平息。

7 So the king and Haman went to Queen Esther’s banquet,(A) 2 and as they were drinking wine(B) on the second day, the king again asked, “Queen Esther, what is your petition? It will be given you. What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom,(C) it will be granted.(D)”
3 Then Queen Esther answered, “If I have found favor(E) with you, Your Majesty, and if it pleases you, grant me my life—this is my petition. And spare my people—this is my request. 4 For I and my people have been sold to be destroyed, killed and annihilated.(F) If we had merely been sold as male and female slaves, I would have kept quiet, because no such distress would justify disturbing the king.[a]”
5 King Xerxes asked Queen Esther, “Who is he? Where is he—the man who has dared to do such a thing?”
6 Esther said, “An adversary and enemy! This vile Haman!”
Then Haman was terrified before the king and queen. 7 The king got up in a rage,(G) left his wine and went out into the palace garden.(H) But Haman, realizing that the king had already decided his fate,(I) stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life.
8 Just as the king returned from the palace garden to the banquet hall, Haman was falling on the couch(J) where Esther was reclining.(K)
The king exclaimed, “Will he even molest the queen while she is with me in the house?”(L)
As soon as the word left the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.(M) 9 Then Harbona,(N) one of the eunuchs attending the king, said, “A pole reaching to a height of fifty cubits[b](O) stands by Haman’s house. He had it set up for Mordecai, who spoke up to help the king.”
The king said, “Impale him on it!”(P) 10 So they impaled(Q) Haman(R) on the pole(S) he had set up for Mordecai.(T) Then the king’s fury subsided.(U)
