6 In derselben Nacht konnte der König nicht schlafen und hieß die Chronik mit den Historien bringen. Da die wurden vor dem König gelesen,
2 fand sich's geschrieben, wie Mardochai hatte angesagt, daß die zwei Kämmerer des Königs, Bigthan und Theres, die an der Schwelle hüteten, getrachtet hätten, die Hand an den König Ahasveros zu legen.
3 Und der König sprach: Was haben wir Mardochai Ehre und Gutes dafür getan? Da sprachen die Diener des Königs, die ihm dienten: Es ist ihm nichts geschehen.
4 Und der König sprach: Wer ist im Hofe? Haman aber war in den Hof gegangen, draußen vor des Königs Hause, daß er dem König sagte, Mardochai zu hängen an den Baum, den er zubereitet hatte.
5 Und des Königs Diener sprachen zu ihm: Siehe, Haman steht im Hofe. Der König sprach: Laßt ihn hereingehen!
6 Und da Haman hineinkam, sprach der König zu ihm: Was soll man dem Mann tun, den der König gerne wollte ehren? Haman aber gedachte in seinem Herzen: Wem sollte der König anders gern wollen Ehre tun denn mir?
7 Und Haman sprach zum König: Dem Mann, den der König gerne wollte ehren,
8 soll man königliche Kleider bringen, die der König pflegt zu tragen, und ein Roß, darauf der König reitet, und soll eine königliche Krone auf sein Haupt setzen;
9 und man soll solch Kleid und Roß geben in die Hand eines Fürsten des Königs, daß derselbe den Mann anziehe, den der König gern ehren wollte, und führe ihn auf dem Roß in der Stadt Gassen und lasse rufen vor ihm her: So wird man tun dem Mann, den der König gerne ehren will.
10 Der König sprach zu Haman: Eile und nimm das Kleid und Roß, wie du gesagt hast, und tu also mit Mardochai, dem Juden, der vor dem Tor des Königs sitzt; und laß nichts fehlen an allem, was du geredet hast!
11 Da nahm Haman das Kleid und Roß und zog Mardochai an und führte ihn auf der Stadt Gassen und rief vor ihm her: So wird man tun dem Mann, den der König gerne ehren will.
12 Und Mardochai kam wieder an das Tor des Königs. Haman aber eilte nach Hause, trug Leid mit verhülltem Kopf
13 und erzählte seinem Weibe Seres und seinen Freunden allen alles, was ihm begegnet war. Da sprachen zu ihm seine Weisen und sein Weib Seres: Ist Mardochai vom Geschlecht der Juden, vor dem du zu fallen angehoben hast, so vermagst du nichts an ihm, sondern du wirst vor ihm fallen.
14 Da sie aber noch mit ihm redeten, kamen herbei des Königs Kämmerer und trieben Haman, zum Mahl zu kommen, das Esther zugerichtet hatte.

Mordecai Honored
6 That night the king could not sleep;(A) so he ordered the book of the chronicles,(B) the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him. 2 It was found recorded there that Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, who had conspired to assassinate King Xerxes.(C)
3 “What honor and recognition has Mordecai received for this?” the king asked.
“Nothing has been done for him,”(D) his attendants answered.
4 The king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the palace to speak to the king about impaling Mordecai on the pole he had set up for him.
5 His attendants answered, “Haman is standing in the court.”
“Bring him in,” the king ordered.
6 When Haman entered, the king asked him, “What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?”
Now Haman thought to himself, “Who is there that the king would rather honor than me?” 7 So he answered the king, “For the man the king delights to honor, 8 have them bring a royal robe(E) the king has worn and a horse(F) the king has ridden, one with a royal crest placed on its head. 9 Then let the robe and horse be entrusted to one of the king’s most noble princes. Let them robe the man the king delights to honor, and lead him on the horse through the city streets, proclaiming before him, ‘This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!(G)’”
10 “Go at once,” the king commanded Haman. “Get the robe and the horse and do just as you have suggested for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Do not neglect anything you have recommended.”
11 So Haman got(H) the robe and the horse. He robed Mordecai, and led him on horseback through the city streets, proclaiming before him, “This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!”
12 Afterward Mordecai returned to the king’s gate. But Haman rushed home, with his head covered(I) in grief, 13 and told Zeresh(J) his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him.
His advisers and his wife Zeresh said to him, “Since Mordecai, before whom your downfall(K) has started, is of Jewish origin, you cannot stand against him—you will surely come to ruin!”(L) 14 While they were still talking with him, the king’s eunuchs arrived and hurried Haman away to the banquet(M) Esther had prepared.

6 1-2 That night the king had trouble sleeping and decided to read awhile. He ordered the historical records of his kingdom from the library, and in them he came across the item telling how Mordecai had exposed the plot of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, watchmen at the palace gates, who had plotted to assassinate him.
3 “What reward did we ever give Mordecai for this?” the king asked.
His courtiers replied, “Nothing!”
4 “Who is on duty in the outer court?” the king inquired. Now, as it happened, Haman had just arrived in the outer court of the palace to ask the king to hang Mordecai from the gallows he was building.
5 So the courtiers replied to the king, “Haman is out there.”
“Bring him in,” the king ordered. 6 So Haman came in, and the king said to him, “What should I do to honor a man who truly pleases me?”
Haman thought to himself, “Whom would he want to honor more than me?” 7-8 So he replied, “Bring out some of the royal robes the king himself has worn, and the king’s own horse, and the royal crown, 9 and instruct one of the king’s most noble princes to robe the man and to lead him through the streets on the king’s own horse, shouting before him, ‘This is the way the king honors those who truly please him!’”
10 “Excellent!” the king said to Haman. “Hurry and take these robes and my horse, and do just as you have said—to Mordecai the Jew, who works at the Chancellery. Follow every detail you have suggested.”
11 So Haman took the robes and put them on Mordecai, and mounted him on the king’s own steed, and led him through the streets of the city, shouting, “This is the way the king honors those he delights in.”
12 Afterwards Mordecai returned to his job, but Haman hurried home utterly humiliated. 13 When Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends what had happened, they said, “If Mordecai is a Jew, you will never succeed in your plans against him; to continue to oppose him will be fatal.”
14 While they were still discussing it with him, the king’s messengers arrived to conduct Haman quickly to the banquet Esther had prepared.

6 On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.
2 And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.
3 And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.
4 And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king's house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
5 And the king's servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.
6 So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?
7 And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour,
8 Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:
9 And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
10 Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king's gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.
11 Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
12 And Mordecai came again to the king's gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.
13 And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.
14 And while they were yet talking with him, came the king's chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.

The King Honors Mordecai
6 That night [a]the king could not sleep. So one was commanded to bring (A)the book of the records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king. 2 And it was found written that Mordecai had told of [b]Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, the doorkeepers who had sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus. 3 Then the king said, “What honor or dignity has been bestowed on Mordecai for this?”
And the king’s servants who attended him said, “Nothing has been done for him.”
4 So the king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had just entered (B)the outer court of the king’s palace (C)to suggest that the king hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
5 The king’s servants said to him, “Haman is there, standing in the court.”
And the king said, “Let him come in.”
6 So Haman came in, and the king asked him, “What shall be done for the man whom the king delights to honor?”

But Haman (G)hurried to his house, mourning (H)and with his head covered. 13 When Haman told his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had happened to him, his wise men and his wife Zeresh said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not prevail against (I)him but will surely fall before him.”
14 While they were still talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came, and hastened to bring Haman to (J)the banquet which Esther had prepared.
