4 Kur Mardokeu mësoi të gjitha ato që kishin ndodhur, grisi rrobat e tij, u mbulua me një thes dhe me hi dhe doli nëpër qytet, duke lëshuar britma të forta dhe plot hidhërim;
2 dhe arriti deri te porta e mbretit, sepse nuk lejohej që asnjeri i mbuluar me thes të hynte te porta e mbretit.
3 Në çdo krahinë, ku arritën urdhëri i mbretit dhe dekreti i tij, pati një keqardhje të madhe për Judejtë, me agjerime, me të qara dhe vajtime; dhe shumë njerëz u mbuluan me një thes dhe me hi.
4 Vajzat e Esterit dhe eunukët e saj erdhën t’ia njoftojnë ngjarjen, dhe mbretëresha u angështua shumë; pastaj i dërgoi rroba Mardokeut, që t’i vishte dhe të hiqte nga trupi i tij thesin, por ai nuk i pranoi.
5 Atëherë Esteri thirri Hathakun, njerin nga eunukët e mbretit të caktuar prej tij t’i shërbenin asaj dhe e urdhëroi të shkonte te Mardokeu për të mësuar se çfarë gjë e brengoste dhe për ç’arësye.
6 Kështu Hathaku shkoi te Mardokeu në sheshin e qytetit, që ndodhej përballë portës së mbretit.
7 Mardokeu i tregoi tërë ato që i kishin ndodhur dhe përmëndi gjithashtu shumën e parave që Hamani kishte premtuar të derdhte në thesarin mbretëror për të siguruar shkatërrimin e Judejve;
8 i dha gjithashtu një kopje të tekstit të dekretit që ishte shpallur në Suzë për shfarosjen e tyre, me qëllim që t’ia tregonte Esterit, t’ia shpjegonte asaj dhe ta urdhëronte të shkonte te mbreti për ta lutur me të madhe dhe për të ndërhyrë pranë tij në favor të popullit të tij.
9 Kështu Hathaku u kthye tek Esteri dhe i njoftoi fjalët e Mardokeut.
10 Atëherë Esteri i foli Hathakut dhe e urdhëroi të shkonte e t’i thoshte Mardokeut:
11 "Tërë shërbëtorët e mbretit dhe populli i krahinave të tij e dinë që cilido burrë ose grua që hyn në oborrin e brendshëm për të shkuar te mbreti, pa qenë i thirrur, duhet të dënohet me vdekje, në bazë të një ligji të veçantë, veç po të jetë se mbreti shtrin ndaj tij skeptrin e tij prej ari; vetëm kështu ai do të shpëtojë jetën e tij. Dhe kaluan tanimë tridhjetë ditë që nuk jam thirrur për të shkuar te mbreti".
12 Kështu ia njoftuan Mardokeut fjalët e Esterit,
13 dhe Mardokeu iu përgjigj Esterit: "Mos mendo se do të shpëtosh vetëm ti nga gjithë Judejtë, sepse ndodhesh në pallatin e mbretit.
14 Sepse po të jetë se ti hesht në këtë moment, ndihma dhe çlirimi do të vijnë për Judejtë nga një anë tjetër; por ti dhe shtëpia e atit tënd do të shuheni. Përveç kësaj, kush e di nëse është pikërisht për një kohë të tillë që ti ke arritur në pozitë mbretërore?".
15 Atëherë Esteri urdhëroi t’i përgjigjeshin Mardokeut kështu:
16 "Shko, mblidh tërë Judejtë që ndodhen në Suzë, dhe agjeroni për mua; rrini pa ngrënë dhe pa pirë tri ditë, natë e ditë. Edhe unë me vajzat e mia do të agjerojmë në të njëjtën mënyrë; pastaj do të hyj te mbreti; megjithëse një gjë e tillë është kundër ligjit; dhe në qoftë se duhet të vdes, do të vdes".
17 Mardokeu iku dhe bëri të gjitha gjërat që Esteri kishte urdhëruar.

4 Când Mardoheu a auzit tot ce s-a întâmplat, şi-a sfâşiat hainele, s-a îmbrăcat în sac şi cenuşă, a ieşit în mijlocul cetăţii şi s-a jeluit cu strigăte mari şi amare. 2 S-a dus până în faţa porţii împăratului, deşi nimeni nu avea voie să vină la poarta împăratului îmbrăcat în haine de sac. 3 În fiecare provincie, în fiecare loc unde ajungea decretul cu hotărârea împăratului, era jale mare printre iudei; era post, plânset şi bocet şi mulţi se culcau în sac şi cenuşă.
4 Când slujnicele şi eunucii au venit la Estera şi au înştiinţat-o despre ce se întâmplă, împărăteasa s-a tulburat foarte tare. Ea i-a trimis haine lui Mardoheu ca să se îmbrace şi să-şi dea astfel jos sacul de pe el, dar acesta nu a acceptat. 5 Estera l-a chemat pe Hatac, unul dintre eunucii împăratului care se aflau în slujba ei, şi i-a poruncit să afle de la Mardoheu ce înseamnă aceasta şi care este motivul. 6 Hatac s-a dus la Mardoheu în piaţeta cetăţii, care se afla în faţa porţii împăratului. 7 Mardoheu i-a vorbit despre tot ce i s-a întâmplat şi i-a spus suma exactă de argint pe care a promis Haman s-o plătească vistieriei împăratului, în schimbul stârpirii iudeilor. 8 I-a mai dat şi o copie a decretului scris, aşa cum fusese vestit în Susa în vederea nimicirii iudeilor, ca să i-l arate Esterei, s-o înştiinţeze şi să-i poruncească să meargă la împărat, să-i implore mila şi să stăruiască pe lângă el pentru poporul ei.
9 Hatac a venit şi i-a spus Esterei toate cuvintele lui Mardoheu. 10 Estera i-a zis lui Hatac să-i poruncească lui Mardoheu astfel: 11 „Toţi slujitorii împăratului şi fiecare popor din provinciile împăratului ştiu că orice bărbat sau orice femeie care intră la împărat, în curtea interioară, fără să fie chemat, este dat morţii prin lege. Doar dacă împăratul îi întinde sceptrul de aur, scapă cu viaţă. Nici eu nu am mai fost chemată să merg la împărat de treizeci de zile!“ 12 Când l-au înştiinţat pe Mardoheu despre mesajul Esterei, 13 Mardoheu i-a trimis înapoi Esterei următorul răspuns: „Să nu-ţi imaginezi că, fiind în palat, vei scăpa totuşi cu viaţă, singura dintre toţi iudeii! 14 Dacă vei tăcea acum, mângâierea şi izbăvirea iudeilor va veni din altă parte, iar tu şi familia tatălui tău veţi pieri. Cine ştie dacă nu pentru o vreme ca aceasta ai ajuns să ai statut împărătesc?“ 15 Estera i-a răspuns lui Mardoheu astfel: 16 „Du-te, strânge-i pe toţi iudeii care se găsesc în Susa şi postiţi pentru mine! Nu mâncaţi şi nu beţi nimic, timp de trei zile, nici ziua, nici noaptea! Şi eu voi posti alături de slujnicele mele, iar apoi voi merge la împărat, deşi este împotriva legii, şi, dacă va fi să pier, voi pieri!“ 17 Mardoheu a plecat şi a făcut aşa cum îi poruncise Estera.

Mordecai Persuades Esther to Help
4 When Mordecai learned of all that had been done, he tore his clothes,(A) put on sackcloth and ashes,(B) and went out into the city, wailing(C) loudly and bitterly. 2 But he went only as far as the king’s gate,(D) because no one clothed in sackcloth was allowed to enter it. 3 In every province to which the edict and order of the king came, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting, weeping and wailing. Many lay in sackcloth and ashes.
4 When Esther’s eunuchs and female attendants came and told her about Mordecai, she was in great distress. She sent clothes for him to put on instead of his sackcloth, but he would not accept them. 5 Then Esther summoned Hathak, one of the king’s eunuchs assigned to attend her, and ordered him to find out what was troubling Mordecai and why.
6 So Hathak went out to Mordecai in the open square of the city in front of the king’s gate. 7 Mordecai told him everything that had happened to him, including the exact amount of money Haman had promised to pay into the royal treasury for the destruction of the Jews.(E) 8 He also gave him a copy of the text of the edict for their annihilation, which had been published in Susa, to show to Esther and explain it to her, and he told him to instruct her to go into the king’s presence to beg for mercy and plead with him for her people.
9 Hathak went back and reported to Esther what Mordecai had said. 10 Then she instructed him to say to Mordecai, 11 “All the king’s officials and the people of the royal provinces know that for any man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned(F) the king has but one law:(G) that they be put to death unless the king extends the gold scepter(H) to them and spares their lives. But thirty days have passed since I was called to go to the king.”
12 When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, 13 he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. 14 For if you remain silent(I) at this time, relief(J) and deliverance(K) for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”(L)
15 Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: 16 “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast(M) for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”(N)
17 So Mordecai went away and carried out all of Esther’s instructions.

4 When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry;
2 And came even before the king's gate: for none might enter into the king's gate clothed with sackcloth.
3 And in every province, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.
4 So Esther's maids and her chamberlains came and told it her. Then was the queen exceedingly grieved; and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai, and to take away his sackcloth from him: but he received it not.
5 Then called Esther for Hatach, one of the king's chamberlains, whom he had appointed to attend upon her, and gave him a commandment to Mordecai, to know what it was, and why it was.
6 So Hatach went forth to Mordecai unto the street of the city, which was before the king's gate.
7 And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them.
8 Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to shew it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people.
9 And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.
10 Again Esther spake unto Hatach, and gave him commandment unto Mordecai;
11 All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or women, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.
12 And they told to Mordecai Esther's words.
13 Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews.
14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
15 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,
16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
17 So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.
