A conspiração de Hamã contra os judeus
3 Algum tempo depois, o rei Xerxes promoveu Hamã, filho de Hamedata, o agagita, e lhe deu posição de autoridade sobre todos os nobres do império. 2 Quando Hamã passava, todos os oficiais do palácio real se curvavam diante dele para lhe demonstrar respeito, pois o rei assim havia ordenado. Mardoqueu porém, não se curvava diante dele para lhe demonstrar respeito.
3 Então os oficiais do palácio real perguntaram a Mardoqueu: “Por que você desobedece à ordem do rei?”. 4 Todos os dias lhe diziam isso, mas, ainda assim, ele não dava ouvidos. Então contaram tudo a Hamã, para ver se ele iria tolerar a conduta de Mardoqueu, pois Mardoqueu lhes tinha dito que era judeu.
5 Quando Hamã viu que Mardoqueu não se curvava para lhe demonstrar respeito, ficou furioso. 6 Foi informado da nacionalidade de Mardoqueu e decidiu que não bastava matar somente a ele. Em vez disso, procurou um modo de destruir todos os judeus, o povo de Mardoqueu, do império de Xerxes.
7 Em abril,[a] no décimo segundo ano do reinado de Xerxes, foram lançadas sortes (chamadas purim) na presença de Hamã, a fim de determinar o melhor dia e mês para executar o plano. A data sorteada foi 7 de março, quase um ano depois.[b]
8 Então Hamã foi ao rei Xerxes e disse: “Há certo povo espalhado por todas as províncias de seu império que se mantém separado dos demais. Eles têm leis diferentes das leis dos outros povos e não obedecem às leis do rei. Portanto, não é do interesse do rei deixar que vivam. 9 Se parecer bem ao rei, publique um decreto para que eles sejam destruídos, e eu darei 350 toneladas[c] de prata aos administradores do governo para serem depositadas nos tesouros do rei”.
10 O rei concordou e, para confirmar sua decisão, tirou do dedo o anel com o selo real e o entregou a Hamã, filho de Hamedata, o agagita, inimigo dos judeus. 11 O rei disse: “A prata e o povo são seus; faça com eles o que lhe parecer melhor”.
12 Assim, no dia 17 de abril,[d] os secretários do rei foram convocados, e um decreto foi redigido exatamente da forma como Hamã ditou. Em seguida, foi enviado aos mais altos oficiais do rei, aos governadores das respectivas províncias e aos nobres de cada província, em sua própria escrita e língua. O decreto foi redigido em nome do rei Xerxes e selado com seu anel. 13 As cartas foram enviadas por mensageiros a todas as províncias do império, com ordens para que todos os judeus — jovens e idosos, mulheres e crianças — fossem destruídos, mortos e aniquilados num único dia. A data marcada para que isso acontecesse era 7 de março do ano seguinte.[e] Os bens dos judeus seriam entregues a quem os matasse.
14 Uma cópia do decreto devia ser publicada como lei em cada província e proclamada a todos os povos, a fim de que estivessem preparados para cumprir seu dever na data marcada. 15 Por ordem do rei, o decreto foi rapidamente enviado por mensageiros e também foi proclamado na fortaleza de Susã. Então o rei e Hamã se sentaram para beber, enquanto a confusão se espalhava pela cidade de Susã.

3 After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.
2 And all the king's servants, that were in the king's gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.
3 Then the king's servants, which were in the king's gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king's commandment?
4 Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai's matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.
5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.
6 And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.
7 In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, to the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar.
8 And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from all people; neither keep they the king's laws: therefore it is not for the king's profit to suffer them.
9 If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king's treasuries.
10 And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews' enemy.
11 And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee.
12 Then were the king's scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king's lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king's ring.
13 And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.
14 The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, that they should be ready against that day.
15 The posts went out, being hastened by the king's commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.

4 فَلَمْ يُصْغِ إلَيْهِمْ وَهُمْ يُكَلِّمُونَهُ يَومًا بَعْدَ يَوْمٍ، بَلْ قَالَ إنَّهُ يَهُودِيٌّ. فَأخبَرُوا هَامَانَ لِيَرَوْا إنْ كَانَ سَيقْبَلُ كَلَامَ مُرْدَخَايَ. 5 فَغَضِبَ هَامَانُ جَدًّا لَمَّا عَلِمَ أنَّ مُرْدَخَايَ لَا يَنْحَنِي وَلَا يَسْجُدُ لَهُ. 6 لَكِنَّ هَامَانَ لَمْ يُرِدْ أنْ يُعَاقِبَ مُرْدَخَايَ وَحْدَهُ، لِأنَّهُ عَرَفَ أنَّ مُرْدَخَايَ يَهُودِيٌّ. بَلْ أرَادَ أنْ يَقْتُلَ كُلَّ اليَهُودِ الَّذِينَ يَعِيشُونَ فِي مَمْلَكَةِ أحَشْوِيرُوشَ.
7 وَفِي الشَّهْرِ الأوَّلِ مِنَ السَّنَةِ الثَّانِيَةَ عَشْرَةَ مِنُ حُكْمِ المَلِكِ أحَشْوِيرُوشَ، أُجرِيَتْ قُرعَةٌ بِحُضُورِ هَامَانَ لِتَعْيِينِ مَوْعِدٍ لِلقَضَاءِ عَلَى شَعْبِ مُرْدَخَايَ اليَهُودِيِّ. وَتَمَّ اختِيَارُ اليَوْمِ الثَّالِثَ عَشَرَ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ الثَّانِي عَشَرَ – شَهْرِ آذَارَ. 8 وَقَالَ هَامَانُ لِلمَلِكِ أحَشْوِيرُوشَ: «هُنَاكَ شَعْبٌ يَعِيشُ مُتَفَرِقًا مُشَتَّتًا بَيْنَ الشُّعُوبِ فِي كُلِّ مُقَاطَعَاتِ مَملَكَتِكَ. وَشَرَائِعُ هَذَا الشَّعْبِ تَخْتَلِفُ عَنْ شَرَائِعِ الشُّعُوبِ الأُخْرَى. فَهُمْ لَا يُطِيعُونَ شَرَائِعَ المَلِكِ! وَلَيْسَ مُلَائِمًا للمَلِكِ أنْ يَتْرُكَهُمْ وَشَأنَهُمْ. 9 فَإنِ استَحْسَنَ المَلِكُ، فَلْيُصدِرْ مَرْسُومًا بِقَتلِهِم جَمِيعًا. وَسَأدْفَعُ عَشْرَةَ آلَافِ قِنْطَارٍ مِنَ الفِضَّةِ لِلضُّبَّاطِ لِيَضَعُوهَا فِي خَزِينَةِ المَلِكِ.»

Haman’s Conspiracy Against the Jews
3 After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman, the son of Hammedatha the (A)Agagite, and (B)advanced him and set his seat above all the princes who were with him. 2 And all the king’s servants who were (C)within the king’s gate bowed and paid homage to Haman, for so the king had commanded concerning him. But Mordecai (D)would not bow or pay homage. 3 Then the king’s servants who were within the king’s gate said to Mordecai, “Why do you transgress the (E)king’s command?” 4 Now it happened, when they spoke to him daily and he would not listen to them, that they told it to Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s words would stand; for Mordecai had told them that he was a Jew. 5 When Haman saw that Mordecai (F)did not bow or pay him homage, Haman was (G)filled with wrath. 6 But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone, for they had told him of the people of Mordecai. Instead, Haman (H)sought to destroy all the Jews who were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus—the people of Mordecai.
