7 Vinet serverades i guldbägare av olika form, ingen lik den andra, och det fanns gott om vin, för kungen var mycket generös. 8 Kungen hade befallt att det inte fick vara något dryckestvång, utan var och en fick dricka så mycket eller lite han själv önskade. Servitörerna hade fått order om detta.
9 Samtidigt höll drottning Vashti en fest för kvinnorna inne i kung Xerxes palats.

7 Wine was served in goblets of gold, each one different from the other, and the royal wine was abundant, in keeping with the king’s liberality.(A) 8 By the king’s command each guest was allowed to drink with no restrictions, for the king instructed all the wine stewards to serve each man what he wished.
9 Queen Vashti also gave a banquet(B) for the women in the royal palace of King Xerxes.
